Ifs?

This may seem like a dumb question but I can't find it anywhere online and I'm a Jeep guy so I don't know a ton about these F-series trucks.
Which models have IFS and which have a solid front axle?
I'm looking to get rid of my Jeep and build a full size instead but I don't want IFS.
I assumed the Pre-97 models were all solid axles, but I had someone tell me that most were IFS? Are these just the 150's or...
I'm looking to get a '92-96 because I prefer that body style and anything above that starts to get out of my price range. (high school kid)

Basically what I'm asking is, are all '92 and up F-150's IFS? Are the 250's solid axles?
Thanks

The 92-96 F150's are what's called twin traction beam. It's ifs, but it's pretty tough. Here's a pic:

I'm not sure how far back you have to go to find one with solid axle, but I know it's pretty far. Not sure about the 250s and 350s. I'll assume you plan on wheeling trails if you need solid axle. Have you considered a Bronco? You have a good shot at finding one that already has had the solid axle conversion, or if you look at the pre-77 models, solid axle was stock.

Howdy and welcome.

'80-'96 F-150s and broncos came stock with the Dana 44 TTB pictured above.

'80-'96/'97(HD) F-250s came with the 8lug Dana 44HD TTB or the Dana 50 TTB depending on GVWR ordered

'80-'96 single rear wheel F-350s are where it gets fuzzy. Early '80s were usually the 50 TTB, but some randomly got the highly desired open knuckle solid Dana 60. By '87 all SRW 350s were the solid 60.

Very rarely special manufactured dually 4x4 350s got the Dana 60 as well.

Rear axles are a whole other animal too if you want info on that I can list it out.

Thanks for the info guys.
I actually wanted the solid front axle due to the cost of lifting an IFS truck.
I just always assumed the the IFS lifts were rediculously over priced, but after checking around online tonight, they're really not that bad.
Jegs has the 6" Skyjacker for $670. I assume its an AAL/block kit but I can always replace the rear springs later on with a full set.
I was expecting to pay over twice that much. I'll just throw a 1-2" body lift and be where I want.
Any other good sites for full kits?

Next question... How strong are these TTB setups? I'm looking to run 37's and wondering if it'll be too much for it. What do the 92-96 F150's use for a rear end? 9"?

Depends on what you want to do. Sand, snow, high speed, jumps, ext, good choice. Rock crawling, mud bogging, 37+ tires, ehhhh....

With a lift alignments are a pain to have done after a good wack on anything after a wheelin' trip.

Anyway the TTB vs SFA debate is long and high spirited on most offroading sites.

'85-'96 F-150's/Broncos have the ford 8.8 semi float rear axle. Locked with 37's rock crawling you could make it pop with heavy throttle. When people do the Dana 60 swap, they usually grab the F-350s Sterling 10.25 rear axle or a GM 14bolt.

Where are ya and what are you looking to do?

I'm in Canada and plan to mostly mudding and pretty mild trails.
For the type of mudding I want to do I'll need atleast a 37" tire, so your saying the TTB and 8.8 might not be able to take the abuse?
I've got a pretty heavy foot so that porbably won't help either, although if I was scared I was going to break, I'm sure I could lighten it up a bit.
Thanks again for the help.

Canada eh?

I mean anything can break, but if you get a tire pinned and goose it, yeah you could easily pop half ton running gear. But hell, that's half the fun.
