How to verify a bad PCM
My CEL came on recently and it had 18 codes stored basically a bunch of sensors didn't report, and one code 513 is replace PCM. I would like to do what I can to verify it's bad before replacing it, as I cannot afford to throw parts at it.
My truck is a '94 F350 5.8L E4OD 4X4. Anyone got a spare PCM I could borrow? |
Does the truck run OK?
When you turn on the key does the fuel pumps run all the time without the engine running? |
it runs rough. The fuel pumps run for a secone then shut off

Run a self-test and see if it checks out OK with the codes. If it passes the codes and the 5V I would say it is a good one. Make sure you run all of the code tests and the timing test. You do not need anything special to do these tests, just a paper clip and a meter. If you do not know how to do the tests go to one of these sites links. This is good for the KOEO test: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 This one is good for the KOER test: http://www.broncodata.com/tech/codes.htm |
Unbolt the connector off the computer and make sure there ain't bad corrosion.
