Is my water pump going?
I have a 1995 F-150 5.0L 2WD with 183,000 miles and the original water pump. My driveway has a very slight incline. When I pull in head-first (so the front of the truck is uphill), everything is fine. If I back-in (so the front is slightly downhill), I notice a little puddle of coolant the next day. (When the truck is parked level, I haven't seen any coolant.) It seems to be coming from the water pump area. Could it be leaking past the shaft? Could it be the gasket?
I am assuming that it is time to replace the pump. Any thoughts/tips/comments/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scraper |
climb underneath it after you park to see if you can find the leak

that water could be coming frome 50 different places. find the leek before you buy parts.

Look before you leak. :p

Dry everything off with a rag, and then "back in" or whatever seems to cause the leak and just look for the wet spot. If you have trouble locating it, buy a can of that white foot power spray. Clean off all wetness and paint every possible place it could leak from with the powder. Hoses(particularly connection), around the water pump, all connections to/from radiator, everything. Do the "back in" again and see where the white power is no longer white.
Remember- Ford trucks don't leak, they mark their territory. |
