remote start
 

I have a 87 f150 automatic with the I6, This cold weather has got me to thinking about a remote start. But Im not sure if I can get it on my truck, is it possible to install a remote start in my truck or is it just to old?

Yes. If you have a manual trans, you'll have to do a little more work &/or buy a slightly more expensive kit made for a stick, but you can actually make ANY remote starter work safely as long as you have a clutch pedal switch OR a neutral switch.

Is there a kit made for my truck, I cant seem to find one. Or are there any kits you guys recommend, all im looking for is remote start. I dont have power locks so getting one with keyless entry is kind of pointless, nor do I want an alarm or anything. Thank you

The local napa counter has a no frills model for 30bucks.

I have 0 faith in ford parking brakes to trust holding a truck on a hill in neutral to make a stick work with a remote start.

Then it sounds like you're not maintaining your parking brakes properly. ;)

Back when the '92 was new, we got a call from the neighbor across the street. "you're new trucks in my back yard." Dad chalked it up to not having the brake on enough, but fortunatly first gear was enough to just let it creap and not go wild out of control. Two weeks later, he was leaving, forgot something, came back in while it idled in neutral then from in the house heard a Bang. Brake somehow had comeoff and with the wheels turned drifted down into another truck. Insurance covered it no problem, but dad insisted there was something wrong with the pedal. Well not two months later ford recalls '92 Broncos and F-series for "random release of parking brake" hmmmm...

Anyway, even with the parking brakes properly adjusted, the '97 always creaps back onto the clutch overnite, and the '02 will fall back onto park after i take foot off brake with the parking brake on full. Facin' forward all the trucks hold great, but thats not how we park so the sticks get a wheel blocked for safety

I thought I only had that problem. My parking brake holds great if im facing downhill or forward. But if i park on a hill it will not hold, always rolls backwards.

Actually, my brake doesnt work at all going backwards. If im upwards on a hill and put the brake in and put it in neutral, it just rolls like the brake isnt down, and if I put it in reverse I can back up without even releasing the parking brake.
