Cost for Brake job in Dallas Area

I called a couple of places to get quotes to do a front brake job on my '88 F-150 4x4.

I want to use ceramic pads and the rotors will need to be raplaced.

One place was around $450 and the other was over $500! Is this normal? Seems awfully steep to me.

I actually don't know, never paid anyone to do them. Pretty easy actually, just pick up a haynes manual and do them yourself!

This is pretty normal since the front outer hub is part of the rotor, they are one piece and have to be replaced together. i live in N dallas and looked around in richardson and plano and other areas, 450 was about the cheapest. there is a little more "labor" involved than other brake jobs.

what I did was went to oreily and used their loaner tool service to get the hub nut, and changed the brakes myself. all i had to pay for was parts and i went ahead and put in new bearings in the front end - a good idea if that has not been done in a while, will tighten things up on your front end.

Oh the other thing is do you have manual or automatic locking hubs? 88 was the oddball year when the manuals were the "flange" style and look like this...
