What am I sitting on??

For those of you who have followed my progress since I got my F150 about 4 weeks ago, here's a new one:

I was doing a little more vacuuming yesterday, and finally got to pull the seat forward all the way to clean under the bench seat. Lo and behold...a black box attached to the floor under the driver's seat...looks like a coax cable coming out of it. What is this? The computer (is it called the PCM?)? I guess I thought the computer was located behind the passenger kick panel from what I have read. But on a '95, is the computer located under the seat?

Thanks,
John

might be the amp for the sound system, i think the pcm are either under the hood through the firewall or by the kick panel

I don't think it's part of the sound system. This truck has never had more than the standard Ford AM/FM/Cassette systems.

I guess I will have to look a little closer at it.

Thanks,
John

Sounds like an amp for a CB radio

My guess is it's a cell phone amp/reciever, can you see evidence of a cell phone antenna on the window or magnet mount for the roof? See any dents or scratches?

Actually, there is an "Alltel" antenna mount on the back window. I didn't know that mounted cell phones had an amp/receiver. It must be "old-school". I guess I am just too used to having a self-contained unit. I will have to look at it more closely.

Thanks for the tip,
John

Hey John,
I got a real chuckle out of your last comment.
Just a little known piece of worthless trivia....Back in the beginning cell phone tranceivers took up about 1/3 of the space in your average early 1980's sedan...I think maybe your box may either be part of a cell phone set-up or maybe a compressor for the lumbar support system if you have one.

I have just recently purchased a 95 and I have the same black box. Mine has the lumbar support and I came to the conclusion that this was the controller for that. Probably the same thing on yours

This a guess, i haven't looked under my seat, but in my 93 i have an air back support adjuster and that might be the pump for that or something...if you have one of those.
