Help Please,
When I parked my truck I pushed in the parking break and the pedal went to the floor. I heard a bump and gotr out. I found the parking break cable on the ground, still attached at the break but there was a metal piece with three keyhole type holes were the cable should have been. The metal had snapped at the parking brake hole but the other holes are fine. The questions are, what is the metal piece called, will my brakes fail since all three cables are not in the braket.

 

The parking brake is separate from the service brakes so as long as nothing else pulled apart in the rear brakes the truck is safe to drive, however you will have to fix the parking brake to pass state inspection.

Thank You Very Much. I have asked alot of people today what the metal piece is called but no one seems to know.

 

The part is called a "parking brake equalizer" should be available at the dealer parts counter. Mine broke last year, sorry don't have the part number for you.

In the mean time, tie up the loose end of the cable so it doesn't drag on the ground, and get out of the habit of stepping on the parking brake until you get it fixed

 

Thanks for the help, I stopped by a junk yard and had a guy come out and look at the piece. He grunted and went into the garage, then came back with the exact piece 10 minutes later. I pd $5.00 for the part.
