300 I-6 RPM's
Hi all, I did some searching, and couldn't really find the answer to my question: Basically, what RPM's can the 300I-6 handle?
I have a 1993 F-150 w/300 I-6 AT w/ OD. It sits on 33" tires, and I installed 4.10 gears. I plan on towing a car trailer with a Suzuki Samurai on it, and put the 4.10's kind of acting like the V-8's I'm used to, but concerned about am I revving the engine to high? It almost feels like it, but not sure on the big 6, and what point is it too much. (60 mph in 3rd is about 3000 rpm, and in OD about 2000 rpm.) For normal short hops to the trail I'm not concerned, but I plan on towing the little beast 1100 miles each way in a couple of months. Thanks in advanced. DR |
The HP peak on a 300 is at 3500RPM. The auto tranny shifts at 3700 at WOT. If you rev it over 4000 all you're making is noise. The torque peak is at 2000 RPM. Don't be afraid of towing in OD. It won't hurt a thing as long as the tranny doesn't hunt for gears. BTW you DO have an aftermarket tranny cooler added don't you?

Yes, I have a trans cooler, and will be doing a couple of things to improve airflow too. Thanks also for towing in OD, I didn't think the tranny would take it, even with a cooler.
