EGR Valve Replacement Question
EGR Valve Replacement Question
Guys bare with me because i'm not exactly an ace mechanic just a ford owner who deep down happens to love my truck! Here's my question some of you may have seen in some of my previous post about my gas drinking 351W engine.Like i've previously said autozone says my check engine light being on is due to an egr problem.Should i assume its the egr valve causing this? And is there a way to check the egr valve to see if its defective without going out and replacing it?And another question i have is Most of you Ford Lovers/Owners all know instead of doughnut gaskets for connecting the exhaust manifolds to the exhaust system ford uses flanges on the manifold. So if you have a leak there and tighting or replacing the studs dont help how can you fix the leak without replacing the whole manifold? Thanks for tha help guys me and my truck owe you all big time!

Disconnect the vacuum hose at the EGR valve, and attach a vacuum pump to it. Apply 10" of vacuum, and see if it holds. If it does, the EGR diaphram is good. Next, plug the vacuum line you took off the EGR, and release the vacuum in the pump. Start the engine, and slowly apply 10" of vacuum to the EBR with the pump. If the engine stumbles, or stalls, the EGR valve is working properly.
Your EGR valve does not have to be bad to get an EGR related check engine light. It could be a crack in a vacuum line or even the EVP sensor. Carbon build up in the EGR and the port to the upper intake will cause problems too. Sometimes cleaning the EGR and the port in the intake will help, you wouldn't happen to know the code the computer kicked out?
Egr Follow Up
hey man thanks for the response.can you tell me exactly where the evp sensor would be located on my 1994 Ford F-150 with a 351W So maybe i can trace the vacum lines to inspect them? And if the vacum lines seem to be fully intact how could i go about checking the evp sensor on my truck?thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it..
