EGR Cleaning???
Took my 89f-150 4.6L into ford for injector cleanings and it is still missing and now they say need new EGR and a EVP sensor replaced - $212.00 not counting labor, I was just wondering if there is a way just to clean the EGR or plugg it off or what?? Any help would be great, by the way why I took it in was that it was missing or stuttering around 2000 rpms injeftor cleanings cost alot also - truck has 150,000 miles on her. no emmission test in Idaho required.
I clean mine at least once a year. If yours is like mine the worst part of the job will be loosening the large nut on the bottom. When you do get it off then somply spray it out well with carb. cleaner. wipe it off well then try to blow through it where the tube connects to the bottom. It should hold tight. Also try to suck on the small nipple (no mind in the gutter) and ensure that it holds as this is the connection to the diaphragm which actuates valve. If the EVP sensor is bad the check engine light will be on.
If the above tests seem OK then you can bolt the valve back on using plenty of never seize on the bolt threads and on the large tube nut threads.

Cleat, thx for the input It was bad evp sensor and egr valve, cel would only blink on and off never stay on so it was about to go real bad. - I will clean it each yr now like you said since I do a lot of hunting, don't want to be stuck in the woods cause of this thanks alot on info
I heard brake cleaner should be used instead of carb. cleaner.
If high-miles, I would consider replacing it, they are real easy to remove on most vehicles and not that expensive, about $50.
I know mine was carboned up at 160,000 miles.

I wouldn't block it off or you will have a permanent check engine light, just take everything apart a clean it real good with carb or brake cleaner and put everthing back together. Your truck will run better with the EGR sytem functioning. I'll bet you have a 4.9L I-6
