1992-1994 f150 wanted

I am new to this forum, and am looking for a 1992-1994 f 150.
What kind of life do these trucks get 300 thousand?
I have found a few nice trucks including a 1992 f150 short bed super cab, 6 cyl auto.
the truck has 250 thousand on it, the trans is 1 year old, the body is clean
no leaks and well maintained.
should i be worried about anything if i bought this truck?

my neighbor has 5 ford trucks with no problems
and my family is a big believer of fords.

or should i look for one with less miles.
i have found alot of trucks with 60 thousand miles but the bodies are beat.
and most of teh trucks i have seen are high mileage at least 170 thousand.

how about 6cyl compared to the 8 cyl
power difference big?
i hear the mileage is the same

any common problems?

thanks in advance
john

The 6 cylingder doesn't have much horsepower, its a dog, but it has tone of torque for towing. The 6 cyl though is one of the best engines you will find. As long as it is well maintained it will last a long time. I have seen severeal of the inline 6's with 500,000 miles on them without a rebuild.

so do you think i should buy it?
the oil pressure hot is a little below the middle of the normal section. probably about 1/3 if the normal section was divided in 3 sections. he wants $3000 and wont budge on the price
extra cap short bed.

fast54, its hard for any of us to advise you to buy a truck or not without seeing it, and looking it over in person. The stock oil pressure gauge it not a very good indication of how mechanically sound an engine is. They are known for being wildly inaccurate.

If you don't feel confident inspecting the truck before you buy it yourself, pay the $50 for a mehcanic to look it over for you. He may be able to find something wrong with it that you would of overlooked. Take note of the repairs needed, and use them as a haggling tool.

You should question the seller about the maintenance and repair history with the truck and have him show you records if possible. The maintenance history can tell you alot about how well the truck was treated. Don't be afraid to offer below what he is asking. Just because he says he is firm a 3k, doesn't mean that he won't go lower if the offer is there. And just remember....there are always other trucks out there.
Good luck,
scott
