bumper brackets for body lift

After a lot of consideration, ive decided I want to go with a body lift on my truck. I would rather have a suspension lift, but a body lift is just so much cheaper, i might be able to afford new tires afterwards.

Anyway, a friend of mine has an 89 just like mine with a 3" body lift and 33/12.50 tires, and it looks exactly like what I want. except for the stupid bumpers look funky. The front looks OK and I could probably live with it, but the rear really looks weird with that big gap, surely somebody makes bumper brackets for the 87-91s? what about a shifter extension for the 5 speed?

i have front bumper brackets on my 89, it came with the body lift. for the rear bumper youre gonna have to do acustom job (drill new holes in frame). see sig for pics

which kit did you get and where from? Is it a 3"? Right now im thinking about getting a 2" kit and then putting on 32/11.50 BFG AT/KOs.

Just looked at your site, i didnt realize your truck was a 2wd! the reason i want to go with the 32/11.50 is because they will fit my 15x8 rims, do you think i should go with the 3" kit anyway?

mine's the 3" performaance accesssories kit, i bought it at a local 4x4 store around here for $90

lol, most people dont realize its a 2wd either, because of the lifted look. id go with the 3", the difference between 2" and 3" isnt much so yes id go with the 3", that way you have more space to go bigger later if you want.

thats the link to my gallery. check out the air box mod pics towards the middle of the page. basically what i did is that i took off the snorkel then cut the bottom part of the airbox with a dremel tool to let more air in. theres a couple of people on the board who have tried it and theyve all felt power gains with it.

Hey donate, with that body lift what about your shifter? I looked at a truck like ours with a body lift and the shifter looked kinda low, and the boots were all messed up.

that's what it looks like. the shifter is a lot lower, but ive gotten used to it. the boot is little more wrinkled up, but doesnt look bad.

yeah mine is three inch also, I made custom brackets for my bumpers. My shifter I made a three inch lift for, only problem is the throw of the shifter is huge. Eventually I will raise the pedastole for the shifter 1.5 inches, and that way (1.5 inches on each side) the throw will be stock again. I just haven't had the time to make the parts yet. If your truck is 4wd with a manule lever, you will have to shorten the linkage for it.

I wonder how one of those hurst shifters would work. they claim a shorter throw, so if you lenthened it, maybe you would end up with about the same throw? I wonder if i could find some other sort of shift boot.

how did you get those guage pods to match the blue? my interior is the same color. and is that an A/F ratio meter in the dash?

donate, everytime you post a picture i come up with more questions, i really like your truck!

you cant use a hurst sshort-throw with the body lift, i already emailed the company and asked them and they told me no because of the design of the shifter, it will not work with a body lift.

the pod/dash look a little blue in the pic but its actually gray. i just used a regular off-the-shelf can of spray paint from an auto parts store that said it was for painting plastic trim pieces, and it worked perfectly. and yea, thats an autometer A/F ratio gauge in the dash, i just drilled the dash and installed all the wiring then put the gauge in.

Well, i was down at the tire shop today checking things out, and they said they wont even put tires on a truck with a body lift. Its kinda starting to sound like a not so good idea. we will see.

did they say why?

dave186 02-06-2003 04:17 PM

all he said was liability reasons. Im pretty sure that if my truck had a body lift and i took it down there they would turn there heads. especially when im gonna drop $600 for a set of tires.
