Harbor freight BADLANDS winches
 

Any one have one? any experience with em? I want to pick up the 12000 pound one its 400 bucks and 50 for the receiver hitch piece to mount it on.
Friend of mine has an off brand and its always done the job

My tilt trailer came with a HF winch on it. Not sure that it is a BADLANDS one, but none the less it's HF. It had clearly been on the trailer for a couple of years. I put a fresh coat of paint on it, and she works great. Haven't pulled anything stubborn with it, but the winch itself seems fairly stout.

thanks for the heads up, I hear these newer ones seem to be alrite, obviously its no warn but for the price I cant complain. I think ill leave it in the back seat because one of the 4x4 website/magazines did a test and they failed after being completely submerged
when I need it, ill hook it , whhen I eventually get around to buying one Ill post a personal review up

Look at Warn's newest model. There's a VR12000 and a VR10000. They're much more affordable than their other winches. I'm planning on getting the VR10000 on my truck in the future

You get what you pay for. For occasional use there shouldn't be any problems. If you are going to winch for prolonged periods then you should consider a brand name. You may notice that when your friends find out you have a winch you get more and more off hour calls to go and pull them out. :devil:

Check out Engo, prices aren't THAT much more and reviews seem to be awesome. They actually won a few magazine test over the warn recently IIRC.

Right now all their winches are on national back order, so you will have to wait a while to get one.


Get synthetic line on what ever winch you get, much safer than cable and lighter.

Research ENGO winches. They and i think warn were the only two that made it through a series of torture tests. and engo 9000lb is only like 300 bucks. check it out. I konw i will be having one on my jeep sooner then later

i would never buy anything significant from Harbor Freight. A screwdriver, sure, a winch that means me getting home or calling a tow truck, no.

Spend the extra money and do it right the first time.

its a 2011 JK sport. This is after we installed the 3.5" Rock krawler on it next to my truck.

I got the majority of the mods on my dads installed over easter while i was there. Pretty simple to work on for the most part, only scratched my head a few times on why did they put that there :lol:

i scratched mine too, but it was on metal objects.

I only ask because I bought my Engo E12000 winch some time ago and only recently installed it. I took it to a nearby area to test the pull and it drug my tires on the road. Of course it's inexpensive and the instructions didn't say what the duty cycle is for the motor so this will only be run only a few seconds at a time for only a couple of minutes at most. Higher end winches are capable of running almost constantly without burning the motor up. But if all you're looking for is something to get you out of stuck situations, I will personally say that I'm impressed with my Engo, especially because I didn't spend any more than about $450 for it. A synthetic line is in my plans for the future, but for now the steel line will do. A good rule of thumb is to get a winch rated for 1.5x your truck's GVWR.
