I'm proud of my truck!
 

Allrighty, well last night I get off work, and my friend Mitch wants to take his 1993 'Yota Land Cruiser FJ80 mudding. I say no problem, but there's no way I'm bringing my truck, I don't want for anything bad to happen to it. 30 feet into the trail, he slips into the ruts made by guys with big tires. He didn't know how to get it out, I told him let me drive, I'll get it out. He insisted on driving, and then locked all the diffs and proceded to get it high centered. Great. Luckily, we had some friends there who drove me home to get my truck. Get out the chains and straps, and drug him backwards a good 20 feet before he got traction, his truck stayed in the ruts until the end. After that, we decide to go around the deep ruts and go explore more. Nothing much, just a trail that leads to the highway, and another trail with big ruts that we didn't want to deal with. On our way back to the front, I tell him to go through the big mud puddle before the biiig ruts. We both agree that if he gets enough speed and locks it in low, he would be able to make it out before the ruts. About 15 feet into the mud puddle, his truck slows and dies. Water got into the distributor. So, we get out to assess the situation. He is so far down that I cannot open my door. My running board was under water. I climb out his door, and then run 200 feet to my truck. As I am starting my truck up, a cop pulls up. I drive up, to tell him the situation. He was very nice, tells me to go pull him out. I drive over there, and we start working on his truck. Cop comes up, and starts talking to us while working on the truck. He was very nice to us, even helped us out by holding the light. Told my friend about how he's an idiot, and next time it's a $500 fine. We finally get the truck started, and I tell him to lock it in low, and gun it forwards and backwards. It moves backwards, then stops, then forwards, and just sinks. Past the running boards on all of the sides. Time for the chains. I had to drag him 50ft before he made it out of the mud and ruts. It was awesome, but I forgot the camera :( . I'm going to try to take some pics of it later. :rocker:

Awesome story. I had to do basically the same thing with my buddy and his explorer. He was trying to follow me down a trail like that, but really muddy. How were you getting traction? Your truck is only 2x4 right? Did you find some dry ground? I had my truck in 4x4 low and it took me 5 good yanks with a strap to pull him out, he was buried to the axles, and I was in about a foot of mud myself.

Lesson learned?

Don't go into a hole when you don't know where the bottom is. I wonder how many people have learned that one the hard way?

Yea...I should have gotten the camera. On the way back to my house for the truck, I kept thinking, gotta get the camera and my spot light.

Lesson learned was that he needs more ground clearance :lol: . And we knew where the bottom was when he got high centered, he just slid into the ruts.

Trespassing, I believe. We were told that it was private property.

Yes my truck is only 2wd, but my tires are amazing, and the limited slip is pretty tight too. And I was on pretty solid ground. Not very muddy. I hardly have any mud on my truck. I was on the "bypass" of the ruts.

Great story. I love to go mudding as well and I actually enjoy the cleanup every now and then. Here is a video of my most recent escapade.

Actually, cleanup will be a biatch for him. It was more of a clay type of mud that he was in, and it's everywhere in his car, all over the leather seats, and all over the floors. Pics will come later today.... But on a good note, he does work at a local stealership as a porter, so I told him he owes me a car detail for my services. I think it's fair.

Way to go man...Now you get to make fun of your buddy for a long time..LOL

I couldn't get any interior pics of his truck because it was locked and he wasn't there. I'd take some pics of my truck but it looks the same pretty much, just a little bit of mud on the tires. I'd say there's at least 2" of mud on his running boards :lol:

But in reality your lucky, my single momentary lapse of reason lead to an encounter with an even bigger idiot than I was (for going down dat hole in the first place) driving the tow truck which led to just under $3K in damage, namely this

It also trashed the hinge strip on the box lid, the tail gate and dorked the bumber slightly.

Not to mention the tranny took on water resulting in the need for a rebuild.

I lost a starter due to mudding... I've had my truck soo muddy you couldnt see the paint... I have a couple pics somewhere... Have to dig em up.

I hope he didn't charge you, there are always ways to get someone unstuck without causing that much damage.
