Talking Gear ?

I'm thinking of going to 4:10 from 3:55. My question is about LS. I have LS from the factory, can I get just a new ring and pinon, or do I need a whole dif?

Just the gears on the 9.75" but I am not sure about the 8.8". On my old 10.25", you had to change the LS if you went to 4.10 or above.

sigalph,

You keep the existing carrier and the LS. The gears and shims ect.. are all that is replaced.

Thanks JMC and Ian

Knowing this, how much should I expect to pay?

$150 for the gears and install kit. $200 to $500 for someone to install it.

Lightbulb

Update:

I did some math and

285/75/16 = 32.8"
265/70/17 = 31.6"

3:55 31.6 @ 60mph = 1812 rpm
4:10 31.6 @ 60mph = 1746 rpm

3:55 32.8 @ 60mph = 1746 rpm
4:10 32.8 @ 60mph = 2016 rpm

So the diffrence from stock 1812 rpm to 4:10 with 285's (2016 rpm ) is 11.26%

This means at when my speedo reads 60 mph i will be doing 53.24 mph

If my math is not correct please let me know, I know you will

It will hurt my head too much to try and figure out how you did that but i know that when you calculated this: 3:55 31.6 @ 60mph = 1812 rpm & 4:10 31.6 @ 60mph = 1746 rpm one of the 2 is wrong. The 4.10 would have a HIGHER RPM than the 3.55.

Your right, I screwed up,

it should be

285/75/16 = 32.8"
265/70/17 = 31.6"

3:55 31.6 @ 60mph = 1812 rpm
4:10 31.6 @ 60mph = 2093 rpm

3:55 32.8 @ 60mph = 1746 rpm
4:10 32.8 @ 60mph = 2016 rpm
