Question Front Drive Axle explanation needed HELP

I really need some help understanding something. I just purchased a 98 F-150 4.6L XLT, I love it, beats the little wrangler I was driving! Here is my problem. I can't figure out if this truck has self locking wheel hubs, or none at all. After being in 4 wheel drive, historically I have been used to back the vehicle up so the hubs can disengage. After I do this with the new truckster the drive axles still rotate, is this correct or is there something wrong with the hubs not unlocking?

Please help shed some light on this confused person.

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Your 98 has Shift on the fly four wheel drive. If you have a switch all you have to do is switch to 4hi and drive. to go bact into 2 x4 just turn the switch. To go into 4lo wou must stop and depress the brake pedal in neutral. If you have the lever just pull it back to 4 hi. To go to 4lo stop press on the brakes and shift into 4lo.
The front axle connects at the differential so there is no need to manually disconnect the hubs. They are always connected. There is no need to drive in reverse. Enjoy.
