Front diff oil?

I'm using Amsoil in 05 F 150. Dealer didn't have 75/90 but said that 75/140 would work just as good. which should I use?

kingfish51 07-01-2011 03:27 PM

I would use the 75w90. That is what it calls for. Rear is 75w140.

Nope, you can't use 75w140. Here is the Amsoil compatibility chart:

I was planning on using 75/90, but the dealer said it be ok with the other. I guess I'll find 75/90 in another brand.

Have him order some 75w90, or order it yourself.

waloud 07-02-2011 02:37 AM

I would order it, but it will not be here in time. Thinking about using Royal Purple.

i wont put anything purple in my truck ever again. i have been using valvoline synthetic gear oils

glc 07-02-2011 12:27 PM

It calls for 80w90 conventional, so any synthetic 75w90 would be fine - even Walmart Supertech. It's not critical.

I ended up using Lucas in the front diff. It was a little milky looking. The rear was clean looking, but changed it anyway.

glc 07-08-2011 12:50 PM

If it was milky looking, you've been getting water into it.

waloud 07-08-2011 01:56 PM

It's got new oil & gasket. Hopefully that solves the water problem. I was surprised when I drained it.

glc 07-08-2011 02:12 PM

Check the vent, water may be getting in through it.

waloud 07-08-2011 02:16 PM

Where's the vent at?
