I'd be thrilled to average 15mpg! According to my, iPhone Gas Cubby app, I get 11.5 - 12.5. Most of my driving is city but I'm a weekend warrior and take 1-3hr drives to my favorite camping/fishing spots.

During that time, I was making a fair amount of longer trips 45+ miles from home for classes. It sat a lot otherwise. What I liked most was the increased mpg while towing. My truck had 3.31's stock when I bought it and the dealership had installed the tires and lift prior to me even seeing it. They failed to update the speedometer and didn't bother to re-gear.

Gallons Per Mile? Wow, glad I'm not in the lifted 4wd club

well im glad i read this post. i myself was thinking of 4.56's when i get my lift and 35's. i currently have 3.73's and a set of 33" toyo m/t's on my 4.6 stx 4x4. maybe ill stick with my 3.73's and see how it goes with some 35's first. maybe then if i decide to ill just go with 4.10's instead.

x2 big time. I don't often break 2000rpm unless necessary, and usually drive pretty average. Supercrew 5.4L 4spd 3.73s on 33x12.5/20s, I have been recording 14.6 - 14.9 avg mpg upon my gasoline receipts. Recently I have decided to try to use the throttle as least as possible, approaching turns and signs by coasting much prior to them, 1800rpm take offs when permitted, no idling if I can help it, and giving it just enough gas to make it to the next stopping point without breaking a speed limit too harshly. My last few tanks have been 15.3, 15.6, and my last 15.7 avg mpg. Heck yeah! Might be a grandpa at times but i'm still riding in style saving a gallon per mile just about!

I have pretty much all of that but with the 5.4L, how does your mpg compare?

I can achieve about 13.5 city, 14 - 15.6 avg depending on habits, 17.2 highway. ,

Some folks that are 1 owner vehicles ( not by choice ) live in country side areas where in harsh weather, a capable worker and 4wd are a must. I would rather drive my truck than an Explorer while getting the same mpg. Nothing wrong with trying to get a little better mileage out of it.

ZACTLY!! i have 4 vehicles but at the same time, this is my main long distance vehicle, why not make it better, that stupid prius commentis the attitude that would kill the entire aftermarket and would have us all driving the same vehicle.

I had a procharger with 456 and 33s. I got 14-15 mpg with that. My tranny had an FTVB put in it first. I now have a lightning charger on mine with 35's. It feels great. I will take a trip and check the mpg.

Go with 4.10

I only have a S&D CAI and Magnaflow exhaust and plan on having my Edge changed into a Gryphon by PHP so I can add some custom tunes. I know alot of guys on here with 373's like I have run 35's and say they have no problems, but I don't want to blow up my trans prematurely running the 373's. Like I said now I'm really confused. Maybe I'll give Wayne a call at Justdiffs and see what he says.
Go with 4.10. I had 4.56. Way too low for 35x12.50x20. Stick with 4.10

I got 14.5 mpg running highway speeds 70-75 (just under 2k rpm) on a trip right before I dumped my stock 3.55 gears and after my 4.56 gears were installed I dropped down to 11 mpg highway (about 2,250rpm). My tires are getting to the point they need replaced but if I give my truck more than a quarter throttle on a wet road, or half throttle on when it's dry, my back end completely kicks out. I do have a vortech supercharger and e-fans but I didn't expect my traction to be so bad.

What I was considering is going to a 37" tire to help lower highway cruising rpm's since I have more than enough low end power, hopefully getting my MPG's back a little bit. I'm just not sure what kind of setup I would do with the back to keep it level, I have bilsteins that are made for 3-4" rear lift so a bigger block might max the shocks out, and I don't like the ride of an add-a-leaf. The front could just be a leveling kit.

What do you guys who are running 4.56's and 37's think about that combo as for MPGs?

side note: Last week I blew out O/D (this was since my MPG calculations) in my truck and I'm going to be getting a built transmission soon, so I don't know if that is affecting anything. I'm getting about 10 miles per gallon running at just over 3,000rpm without overdrive highway.
this is where getting your perfect gear ratio comes into place. A transmission place is best for that. They go according to hp, torque, transmissions gear ratio and tire size and find your perfect ratio. You should probably go to a 4.10
