how to do a gear swap video

I'm not sure if this was ever posted on here but this is a really good step-by-step of switching out gears.

The only bad thing about it is it deters me from trying to do this myself. If anyone from iowa/illinois area wants to help me regear my truck let me know. I can't afford the installation fee right now with my college budget!

That is a well done video. It really makes it look a lot simpler

Yeah good info in that video

That's a good thing! If you are not very experienced then gear swap is not a place to start.

I think this video is just enough to get the average Jo in trouble.

He didn't use locktight on the ring gear bolts???

i still think i'll take mine to the shop before I try it.

that explained quite a bit to me. I'm definately a visual learner, and that was pretty informative. Granted, nothing ever goes that easily for me, but at least I have more understanding now than I did before. thanks for the video. I might have to look that up for some more videos sometime.

pretty strait forward. gear pattern is the most important thing. better to learn how to use a dial and get it 100% it would suck after doing all that work to be hearing a gear whine on your first test drive lol

so you don't have to shim the carrier? don't know if i missed something but it looked to me like he only played with pinion depth.

that is one of my concerns with doing gears. setting backlash has always scared me for some reason.

I guess if it were that easy, then everybody would be doing it. Who needs training?

Nice install guys, Glad we could help you out with the DiabloSport Trinity.

There's more to it than what the video shows. What about the pinion bearing preload, carrier shims, or backlash? Why not show the final pattern? Why add friction modifier to an open diff, isn't that reserved for a limited slip?

I agree, it seems just enough to get the average Joe in trouble, but not quite enough for the guy (ME) who really wants to do it right.

Think it was pretty good to watch, but I don't mess with rearends either. I could but would rather leave it to a shop to verify tolerances

Seen it a couple months back when I purchased my ring and pinion. It's a good video, but it looks like he stuck an open differential back in there. I'm still going to take mine in to a Ford performance shop that's local.
