ive never heard of 4.16's before. only gears for a 4x4 97-03 F150 would be 4.10's 4.56's 4.88's Now my truck has 5.38's and i cant even drive in grass i just spin the 40's I know the way to calculate gear ratio but cant remeber exact steps. let me think about it while your waiting got any pictures of this truck? :D |
5.4 is the motor i only have 1 pic have to take some more not sure how to get it to show up heres a link

thats a SICK truck.
I believe if you lift the back of the truck off the ground and spin the tires by hand. Count how many turns you get from drive shaft to tire. this should give you a good estimate on gears. Sorry ive had a bit of a brain fart and cant think of the exact way to put it. What id do is make a mark on the tire to know when it makes a full rotation and a make on the d-shaft so you know when it makes a full rotation as you spin the tire have someone count how many times the d-shaft spins |
If you got REAL energetic, you could pull the rear diff cover and count the teeth on the R&P and divide the 2 numbers...Example..41 ring gear teeth and 11 pinion would be a 3.73 ratio.

thanks for the info. This way is alot more spot on. and it gives you a chance to inspect the R&P |
Glad i could help:beers:

Calculator:
http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm Drive it in overdrive, make sure the converter is locked, make sure you have a tach and your speedometer is corrected or use a GPS to measure speed. Plug the tire size, RPM, MPH in, use 0.7 for tranny and 1 for transfer case. |
so would that be actual tire height or what the tire says it is.

im going to say that you probably have 4.56 gears.
