What do I need to go to LS from open diff?

I have a 99 F150, 4x4. Currently has open 3.55. I am looking to buy a LS diff from a member here who is changing his gears due to a lift he installed. He has factory 3.55 LS. What does it take to change my rear end over to a LS? I'm not familiar with differentials at all, so if you could dumb it down for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jumpn.

Just take his LS carrier out, take his ring gear off.
Take your carrier out and take your ring gear off.
Put your ring gear on his LS carrier.
Put his LS carrier with your ring gear on it back in your rear end.
Fill your rear end with oil and LS additive.
You are done and no special tools required.

If you need more information on any step just post back.

the LS is a stock one out of the same rear end? one isn't a 8.8 and the other a 9" are they both same pinion location reason i ask is was doing the same thing and thought i would check in to it here first would it matter if one was high pinion and one was low? thanks

The above information I gave was for an 8.8" to an 8.8" rear end.
Would need to be the same type rear end.
Parts from a 8.8 will not interchange with a 9" rear end and so on.
You can not swap parts from one type to another type.
Ring and pinion gears are matched and must be kept together.

how many miles are on the other members truck, if it is more then 50K you would be wasting your time unless your planning on replacing the clutch packs in his carrier
