where to get gears cheap
 

ok well when i get my tax return back i am thinking about getting some new tires and new gears

i have a 99 f150 4.6L 2wd with a 3.08 open rear end
i want to maybe put 33s so i was thinking putting like a 3.73 gear or something like that

now where would be the best place to get a good limited slip or posi gear set and carrier and all the parts i need??

those are some decent sets but im kinda wanting to find a set of gears that comes with a carrier for the limited slip because i was told that my current carrier wont work for the limited slip

is this true or not??

3.73's with 33's is stupid. Get 4.56's or don't get any at all. Yukon gears with a Detroit Tru Trac.

I would have to agree with that...I have 33's and a 5.4l and I have gone from 14-15 mpg to 12 mpg max....thats with 3.73 gears...I was considering going with 4.10's but have read more than one person saying go with 4.56's

i have the 5.4 with 33's and 3.55's and i get 13mph

2wd or 4wd? Mine fluxuates but seems 13 would be the best right now till I get it regeared

4wd with a 4" lift kit

Ive got 4wd with leveling kit....

right now at 65 mph I am right at 1800 rpm's Id like to get it up around 2300-2500 rpms because right now mine would get pretty bogged down if I towed anything...

If your really wanting to save some money maybe try finding an 8.8 or 9.75 with 3.73s and posi in a salvage yard or something.

Youll get around fine with 33s and 3.73s, personally I think 33s with 4.10s or 4.30s is about right though for most people who are running their trucks up and down the road on a daily basis.

Called 4wheelparts today and asked about 4.56 gears for my truck. guy said it would be crazy to gear it that high and that 4.10 is right where it should be for 33's. Said not to go with 4.56's unless it had 35/37" tires. Said 4.10's would be right back where it was at stock...I asked about 4.30's and he said there was no gear manufactured for these trucks in that gear ratio.

I'm running 35's w/ 4.56 gears and stock limited slip. Right know my edge is sitting at 16.1 mpg's, but I usually average somewhere close to 15.3 mpg. Of course I have a CAI, flowmaster 40, and edge evolution. I still think I should've gone with 4.88's, for a little more take off power, but my calculations said 4.56 was right on the money for stock. And that's with a 4.6 liter and a suspension lift.http://i704.photobucket.com/albums/w...DCFN0001-2.jpg For a two wheel drive 4.6 with 33's, I think the 4.30's would also be right on the money. I say junkyard 8.8 axle out of a 4 wheel drive for a cheap limited slip, then throw your gears on it and set it up, good to go. Probably run in the neighborhood of $800 for everything. well that would work for the rear but there is no reverse cut version for the front
