Borg Warner 1356 transfer case swap ?
Hey I have a 1993 f150 with a bw1356. My case has a small crack in it under the drain plug. I found another transfer case from a 1991 bronco. I''ve seen pics of it. The only difference was the extension assembly on my f150 is longer then the one on the bronco. I''ve looked at my repair manual and it shows a 1356 exploded view and it shows both extension assembly''s. One other thing both are manual transfer cases.
My question is if I buy the one from the bronco can I put my extension assembly on it? Do both cases use the same amount of splines on the output shaft? Will the shaft on the bronco one be too short?

I believe that the Bronco t-case uses a different rear yoke. Your F-150 uses a slip yoke that slides on the output shaft while the Bronco uses a fixed yoke that is bolted to the output shaft just like the front yoke on the t-case. That would explain why the Bronco extension housing is shorter. So, no you cannot use your F-150 extension housing on a Fixed yoke Bronco t-case.
