Decoding Vin

Is there any way to decode the VIN to see what rear-end a truck has? May be buying a new/used truck and don't have a picture of the door tag.

Thanks

donno if it tells you about the rear axle but thats the best Free Vin number site ive seen. Theres a tag on the Rear diff cover brush it off and write the number down and call ford and ask or put it on here.

also look in your owners manual. i have in my 1997 4.6L a 8.8 Diff with 3.55 or 3.73 gears. or get that tag number off the diff cover and call ford.

The VIN does not call out the axle ratio. There are three ways to obtain it:
-Call a dealership with the VIN and see if they'll run it through OASIS. From there, they can tell you what it was built with.
-Look for the AXLE code on the door sticker.
-Read the metal tag on the diff itself.

Ok, it's got 3.55s. I think it has LS too but I'm not sure.

Axle Tag :

V907N
L55 9 75 5M 19

Door tag:

Axle code: H9
