So I finally got around to checking my millage on my 2006 V6 4.2L with Procomp Lift 35s tires and 4.56 gears most of my driving is freeway with minimal AC ussage.
Was hoping for at leat 17........ 13.5 is pretty bad for a V6 this tank I only remember stoping on the gas hard 2 times to pass .......

 

13.5 is very bad for a V6 4.2... especially for mostly freeway. The lift with the 35's definitely doesn't help, but it shouldn't affect you THAT much... I have a supercharged 4.6 V8 and I can run about 14-15mpg average (equally city & highway)...

Anyone have any ideas to help this guy out?

 

Is your speedometer/odometer recalibrated for the new tires and gears?

 

i say that's about right, expessically if the calbrations are off. my v6 2004 4.2 gets about 18.5 mixed driving. is your truck auto or 5speed. at rpm do you usally run your truck up too??

 

Its a auto my spedo was cal. but is still off a littl. maby 3 miles per hour

 

If you have a GPS unit with speed readout and distance total, use that and check the mpg since the GPS should be right on due to signal triangulation. I would think having the 4.56 gears with those tires that you should be getting good mpg, at least above 13.5 mpg.

 

No GPS and do not have a tac for rpm my rpm is only a little higher with the gears .I can tell that by fell and drive , I guess I need to find a GPS to really tell whats going on

 

See if you know someone that has a portable unit that you can try out, do a moderately long test run so later you can calculate what mpg you are getting as well as how the GPS's speed readout compares to your dash speedometer.

 

That sounds about right. You may think having a v6 means better gas mileage but couple that with a reasonably heavy truck and gas is not as good as you might think. What was your stock gearing? I had 3.08 on my 97 and when I put on 35's I put in 4.56 which gave me an effective ratio of 3.90 which is more suited for city driving than highway. Also, as it was already mentioned, if you have not recalibrated for the gear and tire change, then it will be off by a percent varying with what your stock gears were.

 

I have close to the same set up as you with the previous body style. I get around 14 mpg so I'd say you are right where you should be. It sucks, but I don't expect to get much better gas mileage then what I do. It's not my daily driver either.

 

Take it out on the Interstate and calibrate the odometer yourself against the mileposts. This will tell you how far off that is. Zero out the trip odometer and drive 10 miles according to the mileposts, see how many miles the odometer says.
