I was having some issues with vibration in my rear end when taking off from a stop. I took it into my dealer and they told me it was the clutch packs in the rear end. They want $800 to fix it. I have 47k miles on it.

Is this a common occurrence? I tow a boat which is around 4800 lbs. but I have the tow package and limited slip rear end so that weight should not be a problem.

Also, does $800 sound right? I think that sounds a little high.

Have them change the fluid with the new recommeded gear oil, 75w140, and make sure to put the right amount of friction modifier in. That fixed the problem with mine without replacing the clutch pack. So far for about 30k.

 

Too bad your off warranty because Ford knows about this problem and has not addressed it yet.There's not the right amount of clearance between the clutch plates which causes the shutter.I had my clutch packs replaced on my 2000,02,04 and so far my 05 is o.k. but i'am waiting for it.The problem was so wide spread the dealerships started stocking replacement packs.A good friend of mine (tech.@ the dealership) said it would probably never cause serious problems but it is really adnoying.I think there was a TSB out on it too.
