Price for 4.6 engine gear change

Does anyone have an idea of how many billable hours of labor it would take to to have my 3.55 gears changed to 4.10's? I have a '98 with the 4.6 motor and 8.8 rear end.

Thanks

A good rule of thumb for gears is about $600/axle for both gears and install. The amount of labor depends on the shop. A driveline shop will probably get it done faster since thats what they usually do. A dealership would take longer since they don't usually do many.

Thanks for the info. I'm getting it done at the dealership as they are two minutes from my house and nearest driveline shop is about 30. We had not talked price yet and just wanted some info of my own.

We are replacing carrier bearing and pinion bearing. Had to order new thrust washer as old one had been spinning instead of sitting nicely so it was grooved real bad.

I figured now was a good time for new gears as everything was apart anyway.

Thanks

Hope you are enjoying all your snow there in Iowa. Fort Dodge has a bunch. I know that first hand as I go there weekly.

Yeah, I actually live an hour and a half north of there, just haven't changed my info yet. The snow didn't really start till the night I flew back from TX a couple weeks ago. Since then we've gotten probably close to 2' up here since then.

I'd reccommend not having the gear swap done at the Ford dealer. Most dealerships don't do many gear swaps, whereas driveline shops do them on a regular basis. The place that does them more often usually do a better job than a place that does them on occasion. Thats the experience I've seen in the past.

Just had mine done a couple weeks ago. $200 for labor. Bought all the parts myself.
