4.10' 4.30's or 4.56 w/ 35's and 5.4?
 

i know this question is on here like a hundred times but everyone is mostly just peoples opinions who dont even have 35's. Can the people who actually have either 3 of these ratios and 35's with a 5.4 post how they feel about it. I am gettin gears in a few weeks and i like more of the better mileage lower rpm's at high speeds but i also want more power than stock. What do you think? Can anyone who has one of these set ups tell me what they think? Right now im thinkin 4.10's, but 4.30's seem to be perfect also since they are kinda in the middle of each.

If you have a 4x4 then you can forget about 4.30s. I have yet to be able to find any manufacturer that makes them for the 8.8 IFS. They make them for the 8.8 and 9.75, but that only helps you if you have a 2wd. With 35s 4.10s won't put you back to stock. Its about like having 285/75/16s with the stock gears. 4.56s is the only thing that will put you back close to stock. After driving my truck with 35s and stock gears and ones with 35s and 4.56s there is no comparison. You will help your MPG a little bit since even though you will be pushing more RPMs at speed you're putting the engine back into its power band where it can optimize its fuel consumption. Don't waste your money on 4.10s if you've got 35s, get the 4.56s you won't regret it.

this is wierd because i have posted on fordtruck world and alot of people have said that 4.10's will put me just over stock?

Check out the gear/tire size at 4lo.com It seems to be pretty close to accurate from what I've run before. On that chart 4.10s are a little higher than stock and 4.56 are right on the money.

go with the 4.:56, I have a 2001 supercrew with a 5.4,3:55 stock gears and a 6"fabtech lift kit. I just bought 35's and ran with 3:55 for about two weeks, I lost alot of power. The guys at the gear shop said I should install 4:56, I went with 4:10's because alot of guys on these forums said that 4:10's are great. I had 4:10's installed and I regret it that I didnot go with 4:56's, the price is about the same. I think 4:56's well put you were you want to be

I am gonna go with 4.56's when i have the money. The truck I bought had the tires and lift put on by the dealer. they were not too bright since they put 35's on a truck with only 3.31's and a 4.6. Soon as the money is available I am getting them installed. Does anyone know where I can purchase them? I need them for the front and back. I'm lifting my Screw next week and putting 35's on. I love
the way my truck is geared stock and want to keep same
bottom end and towing power. It sounds like 4:56's are
the ticket.

I bought precision gear 4.56s, minor install kit (front) master install kit (rear), trutrac posi from Reider Racing 2 months ago. Total with shipping was $840. I have 35's and the 4.6. Old gears were 3.31s, always had to set OD off before the new gears.

I just had a 4:56 installed.. I have a 94 F150 supercab/flareside w/the 351ci engine..
It initially had 3:55's...
I had installed a 6" lift w/32" 11.5x15 tires on 10.5" rims and noticed quite a power loss. I also began to tow a 6000lb travel trailer and began to have some major tranny issues...

So, I just had a set of 4:56's installed along w/ a tranny temp guage and various other things....

I am posting to report my performance increase findings...

I will say this. If you have tires bigger than 31's and 10.5, than you will need at the MINIMUM, 4:56 gears...
This gear swap has improved my low end power, but not by much. Its not what I was really expecting... If somebody did the swap on my truck and didnt tell me and I just jumped in and took it for a ride, I probably wouldnt really even notice unless I had to really get on it hard. Then, I might notice...
However, I didnt buy these for that reason so much as I did for towing improvement... I have yet to tow with it as they have a 500 mile break-in period... So, I can-not report on that yet...

Anyway, if your thinking of changing your gears, than pick your gears carefully and know what you want it to do... Take your tire size into consideration and what ever they tell you or you hear that you need, go above it by a size or two... Ha

Just think, a few had even suggested 4:10's.... I would have been immensily dissapointed with those gears.. I went with the 4:56 for several reasons, and I thought I did my homework well enough.. They will probably be fine for what I need them to do, but it would have been nice to have gained some performance improvements worth noting as well, for the money spent....
