4WD won't engage

My 97 F150 doesn't seem to be going into 4wd. I got stuck in my back yard on Xmas eve in wet grass, pretty sad!! I shift it into 4 high and the light on the dash indicates it's engaged but only the back tires have power. Any help would be appreciated. PS...It is equipped with a manual tranny...Thanks...Ray

Check the linkages going to the transfer case. There is another thread here in this forum on this. These cables will rust and sieze up over time.

I checked out the linkage and everything is operating, the driveshaft is engaging when put into 4 hi or 4 lo, but still I have no front wheel drive, could there be a problem with the hubs?

At least you can control yours...

I had a 1997 Blazer XT that was my first vehicle out of college. This thing was a nightmare.... It would randomly fall into 4wd LO on it's own... at interstate speeds. Talk about crapping your pants when you're going 70 MPH and it falls either partially, or fully into 4wd.

You'd never believe it but, I never blew the engine. Luckily, I dumped that thing and bought an Exploder... :D And since, a SCREW KR...

check the vacum to and from the solenoids and see if the are switching or leaking have seen them rubbed through and plugged with dirt, they are under jood pass side near firewall

Thanks for the info Tea3x, I checked the lines on the firewall and guess what, one of the connections was just sitting on the plug, not connected. I cleaned it off and reconnected it. Works fine now. Seeing how much snow we're getting this year, I can't thank you enough, have a great day...Ray
