Water Leak
Water Leak
I’m in need of some help. I have 6,000 miles on my new "06 F150 Kingranch crew cab and it has been in the repair shop twice now. About two weeks ago I noticed my front passenger side floor board was wet, I removed the trim and peeled back the carpet to find the foam padding underneath was dripping wet. I took it to the dealer for a warranty repair and after keeping my beloved truck for two days they returned it to me saying they resealed the third brake light and the radio antenna and dried the carpet and foam pad. They did at the time say they were pretty confident that they had fixed the problem and dried the carpet. Well when vacuuming my carpet today I decided to again pull the trim and check for dryness, and sadly the foam was wet. I went back to the repair shop this morning and this evening was told to come pick my truck back up. They said they had completely dried the carpet and foam and again ran tests with water from the outside as well as run the A/C for a long period of time to check the condenser drain, and to the best of their ability they could not find the leak. In speaking with the shop supervisor, he said it was possible they just did not dry the carpet and foam completely the first time and he instructed me to keep an eye on the carpet and if its wet again to bring the truck back in for tests. My question to yall is, Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on were this could be coming from and how should I go about checking further. On the first occurrence it had previously rained hard for two straight days, a time in which my truck sat in the driveway. On the second go around it rained three days prior but not nearly to the extent of the first rain storm. The shop supervisor did not think the rain was to blame after the second incident, and of coarse all my windows and my sunroof was shut tight. I would also caution all of you to keep an eye out for this or something similar on your trucks. Any input or thoughts on this subject would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Robbie
I have the 06 Lariat 4X4 scab. When I wash it the rear power slider leaks. Ok that one is normal with all the trucks I have had in the last thirty years. But what disturbs me, is I often go out into the desert here around Las Vegas. I get dust inside the cab. It is small, mind you, but this truck is not that tight. I never drive with the windows down out in the desert, just because it is too nice of a truck to get a lot of dust in it. Don't launch your truck into the river, cause it ain't that tight! But what can you expect for 30 grand or 40 in your case!
But I still love my F-150 Lariat. It is a great truck!
Enjoy your King Ranch.
Happy F-150ing!

My 06 supercrew did the same thing. It kept smelling funny after only three months of purchase...
i first noticed it wheni ran the wiring for my Kenwood DD's rear camera and my keg.
I took the pass side seat out to run wiring and noticed the padding was wet.
the carpet up top was fine but the padding and the floorboard was soaking wet.
I noticed it was clear water. if it had been from rain or from underneath the truck it would have been dirty water, but this was clear and clean.
took it to the dealer and they checked it out. Ofcoarse they blamed my point of entry for my reverse wire... (rollseyes)
after further inspection they found it to be the ac condenser leaking clean condensed water inside.
Took them 2 days total, first day to find it next day to get parts and fix it.
Mine did it only after the ac ran for a good while. You should have them check the AC system a bit better.
Good luck

Thanks for yalls replies, I apprectiate your input. The guy at the body shop told me that he had checked the a/c condenser and found nothing leaking. However, yesterday the dealerships service writer called me to follow up on the problem and when i check the carpet it was again indeed wet! So hopfuly they will find something tuesday when i take it in. Il let yall know what they come up with after that. Thanks again

Verify that the water is free of antifreeze...it's not unheard of for a heater core on a new car/truck to leak...The leak comes from the Plenum chamber...and the right passenger side floor is where the water ends up.
I know its not anti-freez, it doesnt have that color or distinkt odor. It is clean looking water as far as i can tell but then again it may also just be getting filtered through the foam pad. The shop also told me he checked the a/c condenser twice now and its drain to the outside fine. when i take it in this tuseday they told me they will be removing all the interior, seats, carpet, pading and all to better check the seams and possible problem areas. And to be honest this is very disapointing, this is my first brand new truck and as much as its in the shop i dont feel im getting what i expected when i paid this much. The general manager told me he has been i touch with some of his contacts at Ford and they are telling me this is an isolated problem with my truck alone, at least as far as they know for now, and i plan i keeping this thread updated with progress not only to seek advise as to the cause but also to inform you all with what potential problems you may have with your trucks. thanks everyone for your input so far and remember to look your trucks over throughly on ocasian to make sure you dont have this problem, remember i had to peel back the carpet to the foam padding to see the extent of the water spread.
I too have suffered from the imfamous water leak. The first time (6 weeks after purchase) the water collected in the head liner and it sounded like a waterbed was above my head every time I stopped and started. That time they had the vehicle for over 10 days drying it out and such. My "Advisor" said it was that the drain tubes were too long. Second time the waterbed noise came from the doors on the passenger side of the truck. That time they had the vehicle for just 4 days.

I also have the water leaking in through that dang sliding rear windown when it gets washed. When i took mine in for that problem, they told me my 3rd brake light was where the leak was??? needless to say i still have a water leak!
Been there, done that. My '05 leaked on the passenger's side the day that I got it and several times thereafter. Took about one full year of trips to the dealership to finally get it fixed. They did the third break light thing (even though I followed the official Ford test method of sealing the cab, turning the AC on full blast, and putting soapy water around the light to see if bubbles formed (they did not)). My deal was that after a good soaking rain or snow, water would leak in and it would always exit through the handle on the pax side A-pillar. It would soak the legs of any passengers who jumped in after a good rain. I really noticed water gushing in when I got the nose pointing down (which happens every time that I leave my driveway). Anyway, they finally popped the windshield off and sealed everytying up tight with some kind of goop. If I poke my nose up there, I can see a little bit of whatever it was that they used, but it's not a cosmetic problem, as you really have to be looking and know what you're looking for. I have now been through several rains and snows and can say with confidence that this saga is finally over.
Your dealership can contact Mike Welsh at South Point Lincoln Mercury in Colorado Springs for details. He remembers this burr in the saddle very, very well. I just had my truck serviced on Friday and he asked me about it again, checking to make sure all was still well (he would have known if it was otherwise!).
Good luck, this is a build quality issue that Ford needs to invest in finding a solution to...

Oh yeah, and they said something about finding a pinhole in a "body liner" somewhere when they finally decided to tear everything apart. I still worry a little that the water has been prevented from coming into my pax compartment, but that rust may be an issue years down the line (if water is still getting into the truck somewhere but is merely being blocked before it comes running down that A-pillar). Nothing I can do, though, as there's nothing amis to report (no sloshing sounds above, as some others have reported).
Check your states lemmon laws. In Texas (maybe it's federal, I don't know) it's three strikes and your out. Meaning if the third attempt didn't fix it, tell them to order you a new truck. I don't know if this only works out once the lawyers get involved or not but there is such a law in place.
I've had 2 new fords that lemon lawed. I took my wife to the dealer both times on a sat afternoon and had her throw a temper tantrum in the showroom about the issue. Talk sensible to the dealer manager (while your wife is huffing and puffing out on the showroom floor) and tell him that it's been in the shop more than in your garage. Ask if he'll make the payments for you.....Both times for us, they were happy to give us another car. The actual dealership doesn't really lose any money. They make a "warranty" claim to ford. Be honest and tell him/her that this experience is making you regret buying a new ford product.
i have an 02 f150 the leaks constantly. the dealer first told me it was the drip pan i paid over 600 to fix the drip pan and the thing still leaked through the headliner and down the drivers side trim panel resting on the fuse panel. Contacted ford and they told me that they have not had anyone else with the same problem. Come to find out the drip pan assembly design was changed. the one i had in the truck from the factory had a u shape around the bolts. The new one has a closed design with will make the assembly not come loose. but yet ford made me pay full price from the repair in order to fix the problem. but guess what it still does not fix it. its the seal and i keep telling them that after buying the extended warrantee which i have come to find out does not cover that part i still have to pay outta pocket to get this fixed. i have to replace the carpet in my truck and the headliner due to these sunroof leaks.
1997 F150 leaks
My '97 has been leaking for about a year now. I have sealed the 3rd light area as I noticed water dripping down from the head liner at the rear of the cab. That did not fix the problem as I still get water from inside the rear passenger side of the cab. I ened up pulling back the head liner on the passenger side and sealed the seam from the inside. This slowed down the leak, so I need to go back and add more sealant. I'll also try the antenna mount for leaks there.
As far as the AC condenser being the problem. I would tend to go to that conclusion. However the truck only leaks during/after a good rain. I have no moisture during the summer months when the AC is used often.
My truck does have the most wetness on the passenger floor board, which seams to be common problem as noted in the prior posts. My search for the water leak continues. Any advise for my year truck would be appreciated!
