Question I've got the door crack..need advice on dealing with dealership...

My 2000 f150XL has the door crack. I noticed it at 40 000kms and brought it to dealers attention at 50 000kms. (Canadian warranty is 60 000kms) They had no fix then so I just had them note it on my invoice.

I was in the dealership today on an unrelated matter,(I'm at 74 000kms now) and happened to mention to the service guy that I heard that there was a fix for the crack now. He said "Uhh..yeah...but you are past warranty now, so it'll cost you." So I said, "Well I mentioned it to YOU (same service guy) at 50 000kms and had you note it on my invoice then. I kept that invoice." (I keep em all) Then he says, "Uh..well...then that's different. If you bring in that paperwork we can set it up for you with the bodyshop. It'll need to be in the shop 4 days. You'll want to do it soon though, as if the kms get too high Ford won't cover the repair." I just replied, "Ok"

Now, I'm looking for advice on how to proceed from here. To complicate matters, I work with this truck 7 days a week with a newspaper contract. If I have no truck..I HAVE to rent. 4 days= too much cash, like $300+!! So...I'm hoping you guys who have already been down this road can give me some advice to keep the bullsh*t to a minimum. Here are some questions that come to mind:

Can /will Ford reimburse me for rental costs I'll be forced to incur?

How long should it take to fix? It's a 1/2" crack. 4 days seems a long time.

What documents/ bulletins should I bring, (other than my own paperwork) to show the serviceguy?

What bullsh*t lines can I expect? Any other tips or ideas?

Thanks All.

4 days in the shop, that is complete bs. I just had my crack fixed 2 days ago and my truck was in the shop for 6 hrs total. If they really think they need it that long they should provide you with a loaner.I didn't get a loaner, but they drove me home and picked me up when the truck was ready. You just have to keep harpin on them.Persistence pays off. When I went in to show them my crack and schedule a fix I went straight to the shop manager,as my buddy tried the other avenue, showing the estimator guy etc... he still hasn't gotten an appointment to get his fixed.Good luck
