Thumbs up Turn Signal Mirrors

Well after looking at the mirrors with the turn signal in the cover and the cost to purchase them I put it off for awhile. Luckily I stumbled across a very good deal on a new Muth Signal Mirror Kit for 79.00. Received them today and installed both in about an hr. Must say this was a very good substitute for the turn signal covers. The arrow is very bright from outside the truck and can hardly notice them flashing in the truck. I compared them to my buddies truck with them in the cover and the Muths are definitely brighter and more noticeable.
If your thinking of any of the options for the mirrors I say go for the Muth ones. They also have a nice 3 yr warranty on the mirrors.
Just thought I would share my opinion on them.

I put the Ford signal mirror covers on my '01 XLT Sport SCab. They come primed black.

PART NUMBER___ DESC ___ YOUR COST
YL3Z-17D743-AAA OVL CON ___ $43.43
YL3Z-17D742-AAA OVL CON ___ $43.43

The existing mirror took some work with a dremel tool to put a recess in for the light bulb sockets, but I'm pleased with the results. Power for the signals was already at the plug that the mirror harness plugs into.

ChiDiver,
I replied to your other thread on these. Like I said I wish I had known you could do this way back as I would have. Every parts place told me you couldnt do just the cover and have it work due to the heads were different. I`m glad and I would suspect others are happy to know that it can be done!!! I`m happy with my alternative with the signal in the mirrors themselves. They are pretty bright when flashing and were easy to tap into the factory connector also. Just slip the wire ends into the connector in the corresponding hole till they click and done.

Either way anyone decides to go is a great upgrade to the trucks and they all should come from the factory with 1 of the 2 installed.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I completely forgot about you replying to my thread.

I agree completely. They get noticed in traffic a lot quicker.

If I had found the Muth mirror kit for $79 I probably would have gone that way myself.

ChiDiver, when you received your mirror covers did they have the lamp/socket/wire included or did you manufacture that part? What bulb type/number goes in the cover?

Thanks

The mirror covers came with the bulb and socket already installed. All I did was solder wires onto the prongs on the back of the socket. Others have went to Radio Shack and gotten the connectors. I'm not sure what they are called.

signal mirrors

Chidriver
Where did you find the signal mirrors and do you think they would fit on a supercrew? Are they hard to install? I like the look and they are way less in price than the LED Muth mirrors

ChiDiver,

Just out of curiosity, where did you buy your mirror covers? If I remember well, I paid around $75 just for the cover. Some moron hit (and ran) my left mirror, total cost of replacement of whole assembly was around $250.

Try Parts@fivestarford.com Attn: Max

They have a web site too. I paid ~ $43 each for them. Took a week or so to get them.

Edit:

PART NUMBER DESC LIST PRICE YOUR COST
YL3Z-17D743-AAA OVL CON $57.90 $43.43
YL3Z-17D742-AAA OVL CON $57.90 $43.43

They come in black so they may need to be painted.

Uh.. hate to bother you again but what is the website? I usually don't like to place orders over the phone unless I need a part description. It's rather time consuming and prone to errors.

Ask for Max when you call/email. He is the person who helped me. Tell him Larry sent you. You'll find he is quite nice to talk to. He knows which ones fit.

I just did another pair on a 2003 F150 Scab and the recess for the bulbs was already in the mirror housing so no cutting with the dremel was required.

The only p.i.t.a. was snaking a pair of wires through the existing wire harness to the plug on the door.

signal mirrors sure are nice but everyone here says they've done it even on trucks that arent already powered witht he harness.. what are you guys hooking up to? my 03 xl sport has harness's behind the kick panels that are powered i was hoping somewhere in the kick panel i would find a place to hookup the signal to.
