Question Adding two amps help?

I have the Ford Premium system, 6 disc changer with the external amp and would like to keep my factory HU. I'll also be adding two aftermarket amps, (one for my sub, one for the back speakers). I have this Scosche line level converter for connecting two amps and was wondering if I should do the connection before the factory amp or after. The Scosche unit allows for the signal to pass through and continue on as a speaker level. I liked this because I want he factory amp to power the front speakers only. The rears will be through an Alpine Amp. Any suggestions? Also the Scosche unit has diagrams for just connecting the positive sides of the speaker level inputs and then common grounding all the negatives, is that o.k.? Thanks.

I'm not an expert but I think you should connect the LOC before the factory amp and I would NOT common ground the speakers.

Hopefully someone will come along and verify these answers for you. Good Luck!

You should connect all your amps before the factory amp. I need more info about how many speakers you are running off of your other amps and what the ohm rating is on the speakers and are your amps 2 channel or 4 channel, bore me with details!!!

You mentioned putting an amp on your rear speakers, Just as a suggestion, I would leave your rear speakers stock, and boost your fronts, This will make your system sounds ten times better. Take for example, if you were at a concert, does the music come from in front of you or behind you?

good point Unlawful, the front soundstage is very important to most people. The only reason that many people would amplify there rear speakers would be when the rear speakers are there only source of bass, but in this case you have a sub, so as unlawful said, maybe you should amplify the front speakers instead? What size speakers are your front speakers? If they are anything smaller than 6.5" then maybe you should upgrade them to a higher power handling aftermarket pair, because since the are stock, they are really only meant to be run off of the deck power, how many watts rms is your alpine amp rated at per channel? Let us know what you think abut amplifying your front stage instead of you rears. Unlawful is very right, your music will sound much better when it seems to be coming from in front of you instead of behind you.

Thanks to you all! I've been away from the computer for a while and haven't checked the boards, sorry. O.K. I have a Clarion Camo sub with a built in 100 watt amp that will obviously be mounted in the front on the trans hump. My alpine amp is a two channel with 60 watts per channel, the rear speakers are Sony Xplods 6X9 three ways (I have to check the ohms and wattage), and the front speakers are factory units. I really like the idea of running the amp and better quality speakers in the front with the amp. My plan is to slowly upgrade my sound system and am planning to mount component speakers with seperate tweeters later on the front doors so I'll probably wait and leave the 6X9's in the back. I also am in the process of making my own plug in harness so that I don't have to cut into the factory system. I'm going to use a Scosche FD-16R, a FD-16, and a FAI-3 dual line level converter to run the two amps. That way when I change my HU I will have an unbutchered factory harness to work with.
