Sub Box help

Hey everyone - I have a question...... I have a 04 reg cab f150 - am installing a jl 10w0 which i know isnt very powerful - but hey its what I have for now... I am using a JL e1200 series amp pushing it (125 watts or so) - anyway - my question is should I get a down firing box for it or and regular front facing box? Also should it be ported or sealed?

Any advice is appreciated....
Brett

Hey dixiefishin......

Well, first of all "no speaker" is powerful. It just sits there powerless, waiting for an amp to feed it :-)
Now, I agree that a 125wt amp is not very powerful, but it might push that little 10" sub surprisingly well, if you have it set up properly.

Seeing as your working with limited wattage and speaker surface area, absolutely, positively "ported" ! It will be louder, and get deeper, on less wattage.

What direction your sub is firing probably won't make that much difference (now somebody is going to come back and tell me how it did for them.... but not in my personal experience)

Also, you said, "Should you get....." Uh.... no. You should build. Boxes are really easy. If you were to post the specs of your speaker, I bet somebody here would be glad to figure one out for that sub.
Oh, and do you want it to just be "as loud as possible" ? Or do you want it to be nice sounding / musical ?

Hey, I'll go look at your sub woofer now....

Peace,
Fish

PS, I couldn't find the actual spec list for your sub, but I bet a 1.0 cube box, with a 3" dia x 19" long port (30hz) would sound really nice.

Ive dealt with a few W0's they can do okay ported.

Now ported will be louder. Deeper not true. And those specs will work but not be correct for the woofer.

Okay.....

Yes, Low-E provided what I would have needed....

They are recommending a little .75 cu ft enclosure, and their 3" x 14.7" port works out to a "pretty high" tuning of 39 hz. Probably be pretty loud though, if you did it that way.

Peace,
Fish

Its not only meant for pound but more for sound. 39 isnt that high....

39 hz gives a rolloff @ 30hz.
