Exclamation 2000 F-150 CD Player problems???

I have a 200 F-150 and factory premium sound CD player. I have noticed on extended trips (30 min - 3 hours) that CD's become unusually hot. Hot enough to almost burn your fingers, you have to be carefull when taking them out. Anyone having the same problems?

Also, anyone out there know if there is a CD changer that will hook up to my factory CD player? Will it have to work through FM?

The heat situation is normal for that radio. They get hot in the trucks because the Instrument panel doesn't allow much airflow inside. If you run your a/c it will help. The radio and your CDs will not be damaged by the heat.

As for hooking up a CD changer, you can get the facotry CD changer and will work directly off the button on the radio and use a line input. There is a harness you'll need too. Otherwise, you'll have to get an FM modulated changer.

firehawk....I noticed the other day (I don't use my CD player much but was on a long trip) that after 45 minutes of running when my wife went to change the CD, she almost dropped it it was so hot. I asked a couple of guys here at work and apparently, as you indicated, Tim A., it is normal and even Taurus radios do it. I almost want to install a 12 V computer fan somewhere in there to keep things cool! My only major concern is what if a hot CD is put into one of those flexible CD cases..will it permanently warp the CD if it cools with any bending force at all on it or anything?

The CD may feel hot to the touch, but it won't be hot enough to warp the disc. The plastic CDs are made of would need to get much hotter before they would warp.

I had a problem with mine on a long trip the cd player would just stop and it said cd was hot. So I took it out and put another one in and about 10 minutes latter it done the same thing. I guess after playing 4 or 5 cd'd in a row the player needs to cool off a bit so I listened to the radio for awhile then played the cd and it played fine. I was going to take it into Ford and have them look at it but figured I would get thats narmal so I didn't bother taking it in.

4.6reg,

take it in. i bought a supercrew and am having problems with my factory in dash cd. i'm not suffering the hot cd syndrome you guys are speaking of. i think ford came up with a fix. problem is, the fix is the radio will turn off completely.

i commute an hour to work. as indicated above, after 30 - 45 min. the radio turns off. this is unsat. i to am reluctant to take it in cause they'll turn it on and say it works. however, they can't expect us to just deal with it. a fix is in order, and our complaints are necessary to energize a response from ford.
