I am trying to install a factory 2001 Cd player into a 1997 f 150. The new unit has a built in amplifier. I spliced the harnesses and plugged the new unit in. I am not getting any sound at all. Someone said my old unit has a separate amp that i have to by-pass. anyone able to confirm this? help!

 

if the truck was equipped with the premium sound system from the factory then yes it does have an external amp, if it had the basic system then the amp was in the radio.

 

where is the external amp?
