Let's talk about Alpine HU's

Alright guy's, i'm getting closer to looking at HU's and need to figure out which one to get. I really like the CDA-7998 but don't want to miss out on anything that i'm unaware of. Have you guy's heard of anything new coming down the line that I should wait for??? Any other suggestions to which one I should take a look at? Last Alpine i've touched was a 9815 and it wasn't mine so never really got to play with it :D

The CDA-7998 is basically a newer version of the HU that I use in my truck. I have the CDA-7969 which has roughly all the same features. The main diffference is the newer ones have that really nice looking bio-lite display and are XM ready. The advantages of the older model are that the 7969 has optical (toslink) output and copper chassis. The copper is nice but personally I think more of one of those more myth than reality ideas. Granted, I understand that copper has much greater RFI rejection than the standard stamped steel case but it is such a minimal difference that it would never be audible. So I feel it was done more for marketing. Anyway, sorry I got sidetracked there. Yes, the 7998 is a very nice HU with some very nice features. The DSP in that HU is really nice and you can set time delay seperately for each RCA output. THe 5 band parametric EQ is also very nice as well as the 7 band graphic. Although, the parametric EQ I feel is the better option to use. That HU also will interface with the same processor that I am using in my car PXA-H700 or the PXA-H900 both of which are awesome DSP/EQ/X-OVER units. Anyway the Ai-net is rather nice and will sure make interfacing a nav unit, DSP, changer, etc. into the system. As fas as SQ goes the deck also has a blackout feature which is supposed to help and it is a dead head meaning it's amp only.

Overall, I think it is a very nice HU and has nice SQ with some really nice features. If you have no interest in the added features then you could probably go with a less expensive unit and still get great SQ. The only thing you would lose would be the DSP and EQ functions.

It's a nice unit I think you will be very happy with it.
