Public service scanner and CB radio

I have both and would like to put them in my new 2008 F-150 XLT, colume shift, and center console between driver and passenger. Does anyone have pictures of their installation or idea's about the best place to install them?

Thank's,

Radio Mounting

OK, check out my gallery. I built a center console to house ham radios. It may give you some ideas to go with. The center lower cushion will come right off the frame and you can box in as big an area as you would like. I had some specific size requirements to build to so this is what I ended up with. Hope it helps.

me07xlt...I love the way that looks, wayyy sweet. you have any pictures of the steps to make it? what is everything mounted to on the inside?...and hows the cb you got, ive yet to use mine yet....is it any good?

Firebolt- I thought about mounting my cb in that tray.....but was unsure if it was a good spot to mount, i know youve got something different, but is it a stable mounting place?

and as far as the power wiring, what did u guys hook your wires up too? grounding places? and howd u run ur antenna wire?

The white board under it is now covered with black speaker carpeting. It is in the perfect spot for me to access and play with the buttons without taking my eyes off the road.

This is the only one I have with the carpeting on it. The switch panel is for my headlights and rear lights. I haven't decided what to put on the 3rd switch yet.

what antennas are you guys using.. i had a wilson 3000 trucker when i had the truck in my sig..

but when i get another one.. i think im going to get something more low key.. possibly even the window ones or the like 12" ones cops have on their trunk..

i just dont want a big ass whip, or even a fire stick on my truck..

and i know im gunna loose range.. but as long as i can get a good 3 miles without complete **** over the speaker, then im down with that..

i've just got a litte magnet mount one and it actually surprised me how well it picks up. ran wire through interior and out 3rd brake light hole.

Center Console

Thanks Guys. I'll have to see if I have any interior shots. What I did was remove the console from the truck (4 bolts). Removed the bottom cushion (it pops off). I cut poster board to the size I wanted the side pieces then transfered it to .62 aluminum. Cut them out with a dremel and file to shape. Bolted them to the center cushion bottom frame. I had to take it to a local race shop to get the front piece fitted. The face plates were cut on a sheer to keep the shape nice and square. They sit on half inch angle. I cut the face plates with the dremel and file to make the radios fit. I used a West Mountain Rig Runner power strip inside. The power strip is run with 8 gauge red/black zip cord from the battery with 40 amp fuses at the battery. Now the real scarry part was drilling holes in the cab roof for the antennas. One in the back reachable from the rear cab brake light. The other one was accessable from the middle interior light. I use a mag mount if I need another antenna right now. I plan on another two mounts on the roof soon. Diamond Antenna makes a very good door lip mount ( the K400) so you don't need holes. I use only Larsen antennas because they have the best seal to the roof surface. They probably aren't the best out there, but they are commercial quality and they seal great. Of course a seal is not necessary with the lip mount. I think that's the Readers Digest version. I'll look for pictures.
