Avic-D3 installation tips?

A friend of mine has asked me to help him install the D3 into his F150. He has a 2004-2006 model, which includes a subwoofer under the rear seat. I have a tahoe with bose system that i have to tap into the amp which runs the speakers for audio output. Do I need to do anything with any kind of amp running the factory sub? or any other tips to things to look out for?

TIA

you need a special harness for the factory sub. and the vss wire is the black and grey one in the factory harness.

Installation is pretty easy, just take your time and do a good job splicing/soldering the harness wires together. Metra harness works great (see picture below). For factory sub, use a 5k OHM resistor between the blue/white wires (antenna power wires which will power on the sub as well) to avoid loud boom on power up and popping noises.

Lot of posts on here and on avic411.com that can help as well. Feel free to ask anything else though as a number of people here have done the install already.

I own an '04 Lariat with the Factory Sub. I'm planning on buying the Pioneer AVIC-D3 and installing myself. I'm about 90% confident I can do it. The resistor issue is my only hesitation. I have a couple questions...

Where can you pick up a 5 Ohm resistor?
Do you have any specific brands or model numbers?
Last question:
Do you treat the two blue/white wires (from the harness) as one, and connect them to the wire coming from the sub, with the resistor in-line?

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just posted a reply in the other thread you posted in As for where to buy, go to radio shack and tell one of the sales people what you're looking for and they will lead you straight to it. I used a 1.5k ohm resistor and it works fine for me, no popping. You could always start there and work your way up if it still is popping, mine is an '05.

I've come across this little device before. I don't see where it fits in though. Maybe it's the color scheme that is throwing me off. Or maybe because I don't know what's on the other end of the red, black and white wires. Just open wire ends? Where do they attach?

Anyone have any pictures of this device installed, or at least of the entire device?

(Sidenote: please forgive my ignorance here. Again, I don't have any of these parts in front of me so all I have to go by is what I have read here and on AVIC411.)

Also, I just ordered the D3, iPod cable, BlueTooth Adapter, BestKits mounting bracket, wiring harness, PAC SWI-PS, and a few odds and ends for a total of $835. I ordered from AUTOTOYS.COM. I'll let y'all know how it goes...

Scratch that. AUTOTOYS.COM will not ship to an address other than the confirmed billing address. I'm in college, so that doesn't work for me...

Same thing here. CartronixPlus had the Avic D3 for $565+ shipping last week, and they wouldnt ship anywhere but my billing address, so I had to get it shipped to my parent's house, and then its being shipped up to my place up at U.K.

Just ordered from COMPUPLUS.COM. If everything works out, I will post detailed pictures of the install (for all of you visual folks out there like me).
