BrandMotion - GPS Navigation system

As I stated in my other post, I purchased both the Blueconnect and the GPS system together. Here is my write up for the Nav system.

Install:

10 minutes time.
  1. Pop the front cover off around the radio (the wood trim or silver depending on model)
  2. Remove the black tray on the top of the dash.
  3. Drop in the new unit, plug it in with the inline plug provided.
  4. Reassemble. Very very easy and fast.

Use:

It is the Roadmate 760 with a plastic shell around it to hold it in place. Reviews of the Roadmate will give you a good idea of how the GPS itself performs. I won't go into that here other than to say, the antenna included took 10-15 minutes for a lock. I bought a high gain from ebay and replaced it and it works better now.

The 760 shows its age when compared to new systems but it is very accurate and works well.

The placement of the device makes using it while in the drivers seat a little awkward. You really need to lean forward and to the right to access it. Not something you want to do while driving.

It is generally loud enough and overall a nice system. However, unless you wanted a built in, factory look, you would do better to buy a portable new unit for less money. I still think the 07 NAVs are the best I've used for looks and function but this is the best I could do for an 04.

Call and ask about better pricing. Don't pay the web listed price. They can and will do better. It is an old GPS after all.

Final Comment:

Only worth the money if a built in appearance and semi-stock look is worth it for you. I have to have a clean look to my truck. I hate stuff stuck or hanging all over it. I hid my XM commander in the ash tray, hid the XM antenna under the front cowl, the Blueconnect looks like a rail tray and the GPS looks clean and about as factory as you can get without it from the factory.

East of Install: 9/10
Use: 7/10
Look: 8/10
Price: 5/10

That's why I purchased a unit from E-bay. I will paint the cover to match dash.

I saw the units on Ebay going from $400 to $550 depending on the auction. I figure I paid close to that.

Is the dash tray on the 09 the same size as the 08? Do you think a roadmate 800 or 860t could fit in the housing of the kit?

Can you take some dimensions of the installed unit so I can cross reference it on my 2009.
