Newbie Question

Hi All,

I have a real newbie question about adding Navigation.

Assuming I go with a permanent solution and not one of those portable devices I'm a bit confused about where to put the actual gps receiver ?

Do you put it on the roof and somehow try and wire to the dash ? does anyone have any pics of the location where they put it ?

Thanks and sorry for the newbie questions, I know nothing about navigation and couldn't seem to find the answers online

If you mean the GPS antenna, I placed mine on the metal bracket just below the tray on the dash. It's very easy to remove once you detach the radio surround. When you take the tray loose, there is a metal bracket that runs vertical toward the windshield. My GPS antenna fits perfectly there. It's magnetized and does move in that location. The signal is strong, even through the tray and windshield. Also, search this forum for radio installs. It helped me. Hope this helps you. - Og

I have a 07 Screw and I took of the top back light (just above the cab) and I ran the antenna wire along the inside edge of the roof (and I didnt have to take it loose or down). The weather stripping will hold it in place. I came down the passenger side of the door (in the front of the passenger door) up under the glove box and into the radio compartment. Let me know if this helps if not maybe I can take some pics for you. I was going to use the dash but when I checked the signal strength on my radio (Pioneer AVIC-Z2) it was cool but not great. So I figured that if I was surrounded by trees I would have poor reception, so I decided to put it on the roof

PS: the back light has a notch pre cut into that the wire can go into.
