Who's using the AVIC-D3?

How do you like this unit? I am really considering it and just want to see how it is performing. It looks like one awesome piece. My only concern is why is it so cheap? What are the downsides other than the smaller screen? I mean, you can pick one up brand new on ebay for under $800. No one else even comes close with a built in navi all in one unit. The next closest is probably just under $1k. Any thoughts?

this unit is great for that price i believe there arent many that play dvd's and its in-dash... i've had it for 3 months now and no problems, i think its worth the price and its pioneer

Had mine for about a month now, overall very pleased.

My main goal was to fill up the opening, and since I would be using a screen, I wanted to have information displayed about whatever I was listening to however I may be listening to it.

Navi works great, I didn't really want/need it but as the OP mentioned, for the money it didn't make any sense for me to pay the same for other units that didn't have it.

I'm not so happy about the lack of non-ipod usb support. You can do it but you won't get very much information about whats playing, which is silly considering the fact that you have this huge screen! So I broke down and got an ipod, which works great and you can see all the details about the track thats playing.

XM tuner works great, plenty of information to be had. I've read that the Sirius support is not as good but you may want to confirm that with a Sirius customer.

Menu navigation is a breeze, I haven't read the instructions yet and I've already figured most of it out. Haven't played much with the navi, running a dvd movie, xvid, or mp3 disc. Again those won't the main reasons for me on buying the unit, but are nice bonuses considering I had to spend the money anyway.

On a side note: My driving has taken a turn for the worst since I've installed this unit. :(

Oh, and for a ton of info see: www.avic411.com

How bad of a distraction are we talking?

I considered this unit, but after researching for a while, I decided to go with the Kenwood DNX7100 you can get one for about $970 on eBay, has built in Nav, AND you can watch DVD's/listen to CD's while using the Nav, a feature that you cannot do with the D3, you can also update the maps via an SD card on the Kenwood, instead of having to spend BOOKOO bucks for new DVD's

From what I read, the Pioneer allows you to plot the route and take the navi disc out and insert a DVD for simultaneous operation. Can anyone confirm this?

Only for so long, then it will ask for the disk again

Well that's kinda out. It also does not appear that the D3 has angle adjustment and in my MDX, I really need that. Looks like I might be headed back to a W200 or W205. Thanks for letting me no.

I al;so considered the D2, it has 2 slots, one for cd player, and one for the map DVD, it also has angle, but you will need an external DVD player to play movies. (Which I already have)
