Question Does Your Head Unit Sit Flush?

I just had a Dual XDVD710 installed in my 2004 SuperCrew at Best Buy, and it is not flush. It is a flip out 7" screen, but when it is closed it looks like a regular head unit that sticks out TOO FAR. Not as noticable when the screen is open but I don't think I will ride around with it open 100% the time.

Is there something that I can do to make sure it sits deeper in the dash?

Is this normal?

Should I try another tech/different store?

I asked the tech and he said, "there is no more room behind the unit to push it deeper into the dash."

just play with the brackets in the dash. I did that with my IVA-W200, and it's pretty close to flush. Sticks out about 1/8" at the top and bottom of the unit due to the curve of the dash. Just need to make sure that the operation of the screen won't be affected by pushing it further in.

Thanks for the info... I checked with another installer and he said the screen needs the space in order to flip in and out without getting hung up.

The mounting bracket that I used from Metra had several different bolt holes to use to allow you to set the unit as deep as you like. This is an example of why I do things myself instead of having the pimple faced morons at the stores do it. if you pop the dash trim off and remove the 4 radio screws you'll see all the slots and holes in the bracket that you can use to relocate it deeper. Don't use different screws though, if they are too long they can mess the radio up.

but this can not be done on the flip out headunits because it needs that space for the screen to come out and fold out.

Mine pops straight out before it starts tilting. No rubbing issues. All I did was play with the bracket until I got it where I wanted it.
