PLEASE HELP!! Factory Flip Down DVD issues
I purchased the Eclipse AVN5500 and installed it. My truck came with the factory dvd entertainment system. The OEM dvd player has a wiring harness that is not compatible with the Eclipse. Therefore the screen wont come on for some reason. Maybe its not getting power. I have been to ALL my local stereo shops, and nobody wants to tackle the problem. I believe its an issue of tapping into each wire and seeing what they each do. I'm thinking of maybe selling the factory dvd player and just installing some headrest monitors. Any suggestions? Thanks for all your help!!
if you decide to sell the factory system, what might you take for it.... I am buying a 2004 and I know there will be issues such as wiring harness, etc, but i would like to have one for my rail system...

I install eclipse navs and make them work with the factory dvd all the time. The f150 is the easiest because of all the room in the dash, the explorer is the worst because there is no room. At least part or all of the factory radio needs to be partially wired up and hidden away. I typically take the main curcuit board out of the stock radio and just tuck that away. You can use the outputs from the dvd for audio in on the aftermarket headunit. Simply cut the wires on the fact aux plug and add rca ends to them. You will need a ground loop isolator to take care of the background noise but thats about it. The reason for this is because the dvd is turned on by the can signal from the factory radio, and right now the only way to get that is from the stock radio. Sounds like a big deal, but its really not. I've probly done close to a hundred of these.
