How did you get the installation to be flush? I have seen other installations where they stick out and they don't look "factory". I really think yours is the best that I have ever seen.

I second that what dash kit is it and does it being to flush effect the way it opens at all?? I was told in the past that the reason they don’t mount flush is so the door opens etc etc. Give us as much info as you can think to give.

/me is jealous

It’s exactly what I want just don't have the cash flow for it yet.

What’s the deal with the Sirius satellite for it? How do they do map updates etc etc.

Asking you since you are the first person I have seen post about having one and there is NO new literature dealing with this radio its all the 5435 and really who cares about that one since this one HAS A DAMN HARD DRIVE BUILT IN!!!!

Ok I’m done with my rant but not my envy. Excellent install (not sure if you did it or paid for it)

Thanks for the compliments.

It was professionally installed, but when they installed it, it stuck out like all of the others I have seen pictures of. When I got home, I pulled it out (very easy) and adjusted it to be flush with the dash. The faceplate adapter was one I took to the installer. I bought it from crutchfield because it is specific to our trucks, meaning it curves with the dash. The stereo actually mounts to this faceplate/adapter kit and the faceplate/adapter kit is what you screw to the dash to hold the stereo. Making it flush was just a matter of losening some screws in the adapter and pushing the stereo back a little. Now, when you do this, and the stereo is flush, you will have some gaps between the stereo and the trim piece - it doesn't take up all of the available space in the faceplate. There is no gap on the sides, but there is a gap on top and bottom. I chose to meet the top and have all of the gap on the bottom. I then put a peice of black velcro on the bottom of the stereo to take up the space. See picture.

Since the velcro is black, it fits right in and is not noticeable.

The screen opens/tilts fine like this. No problems at all.
The Sirius is supposedly a software upgrade that will be out soon, but I have not heard when.
The Navigation works great and I think it is only version 1. Any Nav updates will be thru my dealer and they will just update the harddisk software.

Yes, the harddisk is a must have item. Not only does it make the nav work faster, copying music to it is very easy and useful.

Thanks Craig!

Hey Viper - I think iy is hard to find 'good deals' on Eclipse products. The best way to do it is just go to your local Eclipse dealer and try to talk them down. I ordered mine before they were even out, so I was not in a very good negotiating position.

Does the AVN5495 support voice recognition (i.e. pressing steering wheel control and then asking for nearest pizza parlor)?
