Computer
Anyone build a personal computer for the truck? basically a hard drive that holds all your music and movie so you can play them back while you are driving this way you don't have to have a bunch of cds/dvds taking up space.

:smoke: I never even thought about putting one in my truck. If I had one in my truck, the only other thing I would need is a fridge. then I would never get out of it.:smoke:

I just got done putting a 7" touch screen in my dash that runs off of a computer under my back seat. The computer is a 1ghz Via processor with 256MB DDR RAM and a 60gb hard drive. I have been spending many eveings on it lately and I will get pictures up when I get finished. In the end it will have a complete navigation system, dvd ability, 40gb of mp3s, radio, and wireless internet. If anyone has any questions about it, check out mp3car.com, that is where i got all of my information.

I'm planning the installation of a Pioneer AIC-N2 that should be released later this month, and am considering adding in a mini-mac. I'm not an apple fan by any means, but that little sucker seems to be perfect for installation into a vehicle. Compact and powerful... would give you a full computer. http://www.apple.com/macmini/http://www.apple.com/macmini/

I had a car-puter in my dodge before it burned.
It had a 7" liliput touchscreen and a decent computer that ran it. Was really good, just have to have expensive dc-dc convertor and startup timer to turn it on and off. All in all should cost you from 800 to 1000 bucks all together if you have to buy everything. |
how did it burn?

I was considering a Car PC as one of the options to introduce multimedia onto my truck (versus GPS and DVD seperate)...anyway, I came across this awesome Mobile Car PC manufacturer's website with some pretty cool options.
Hope this helps ya'll! Edit: I found some more options for ya...here. |
Thanks Zamboni, that's some cool stuff!

I've flirted with the idea, but haven't put it into action since I'd want a seperate HU for radio and stuff w/o having to fire up a PC everytime. Some of my links & resources:
http://www.cappuccinopc.com/default.asp http://www.logicsupply.com/ http://mp3car.com/ (good forums) Google search for 'carputer' for lots of other info!! BTW - Those Xenarc monitors are THE BEST... thus the higher cost. Many folks like the Lilput jobbies, but the brightness of the Xenarc is unmatched!! |
