Running Nitto and F1's at same time??
These may be some dumb questions but i'm going to ask them anyway. I am having some major traction issues and I have been considering the Nitto Drag Radial. My question is, Is there any of you who run F1's on the front and the Nitto's on the back, as a daily driver. Is this possible? How does it look? Can you tell a difference. I notice that the Nitto is a 305/45/18 and the F1's are 295/45/18. I am a dummy when it comes to this, so what is the difference. What is that first number...305 or 295? Whats the difference in the tires size.
If any of you have pics of this combo, please send them to me. I would really like to see it. I still want my truck to look completly normal. I just want more traction. Getting of the line is killing me. Thanks for all your help! |
Any help with this one....?

why not get 4? you could just wait until you need to replace your F1s
|
Well, they are 240 bucks a piece. Its just that I put alot of miles on my truck and the drag radials only last 10-15k. And that would get very expensive. However, I would love to have the nitto's on the back for if that Vette guy pulls up next to me at the light. I dont want to be left at the light spining.

305 and 295 are the sectional widths of the tire. The 45 is the aspect ratio(a comparison of the diameter to the width of a tire).
I would not mix mfr's of tires. I don't know what would happen with this combo, but you are asking for handling(and maybe breaking) trouble. They will have different coefficients of grip, flex, etc. If you only plan to drag race with 555Rs on the rear, that should work OK as that is what I do with my M/Ts. Of course, some vehicles handle very well with a wider tire at the rear............. I am going to have to replace my OEM F1s soon too. They have almost 39,000 miles on them. Can't decide whether to go with Nittos(555) or Toyo Proxes. Dan |
Run the DR's on back. You'll be fine. There won't be any adverse handling problems, braking problems, etc. UNLESS you OPEN TRACK the truck on the way to work.;)

Would be very interested to hear more suggestions on this. And please, if there is anyone who runs the F1's on the front and the Nitto DR's on the back. I really would love to see a pic. Thanks again.

Go ahead and get the DR's for the back and keep the F1's on the front. I don't believe it will hurt anything. I think most of everyone who runs the DR's on the back run different tires on the front. (F1, Toyo, 555's, etc) The DR's are only 5/16" taller than the F1's. I believe it will only through your speedo off by 1mph at the most.
P.S. Who would want to run DR's on all 4 corners? Unless it was all-wheel-drive. |
My thing is, Would it look normal to run the two different tires. Would you be able to tell from just looking at the truck. I want it to still look normal. I would really like to run the Nitto's on the back as a daily driver. Use them all the time, IF it looks the same? Thats why I would like to see a pic, if someone has one.

i have done it before, never noticed any problems with it (i really hate nittos as a regular road tire) so i left my stock f1's on front and put the DR's on the back. i asked a bunch of the guys at work about it (discount tire) and they said they couldnt think of anything wrong with it, besides ive done it to a ton of customers cars

Oh.....I don't have a picture, but if you have the Dec. issue of MM&FF turn to page 13 and you will see a Silver L with DR's on the back and F1's on the front.
I don't think it looks normal.....it looks better then that.;) |

I was told that Nitto did not make a 295/45/18. So how can the pic be different?
Also, Anyone who could scan the pic in the magazine and sent it to me. I would be very greatful. Thanks. coreyt@pineynet.com |
Nitto makes the 555 street tire in 295/45/18 and the 555R (drag radial) in 305/45/18
|
OK...I knew that. But in the picture you were talking about, Is the drag radials in the back and F1's in the front?
