Can't hook up....HELP!!

Well guys, I am having a SERIOUS problem making my truck hook up. I can't get any traction of the line. What can I do? Traction bars, tires, ect.? I was thinking of maybe some drag radials. Which ore the best brands ect. Right now it really does not matter what technique I use I just spin uncontrollably. I can be going 10-15mph and punch it and still get lots of wheel spin. It's killing me when I race.

Short story: I raced a guy yesterday in a Old Model Monte Carlo with a 400 big block. He had drag radials, and a big stall converter. He has lots of money into this car. He was jumping me off the line due to the fact that he had the car revved to 3000-4000 rpms off the line then he gassed it and he shoots out of the hole like a rocket (while im spinning). He only beats me 1-2 links. I even beat him once. Once we get off the line it stayed even, he just jumped me off the line. I want to know what you guys do to get off the line and get traction. Please help!

P.S.- I raced the same guy, same car before the drag radials and beat him 3 links. Would tires help me that much?

My mods are: JDM stage 1, and 4lb pulley

Are you still running F1's? If you don't want to go all-out with an ET-Street or slicks on new rims, the Nitto 555R will help you - ALOT.

Yes I am still running F1's. My truck is a 2002 and just has 9500 miles on it. I have heard of the Nitto's. Are they the best drag radial. Do they hook really well? How many miles can you get out of a set? Price? Thanks for any more info.

Well thats what the guy told me. Im not really sure. I just want to be able to hook up and put my power to the ground instead of up in smoke. (lol)

Do they make Nitto's in the 295/45/18? If so, were can I find them?

BlkBanshee Nov 11, 2002 01:02 PM

I wouldn't say that they're the best DOT slick, but they're good, and alot better than F1's. They don't make them in a 295, it's a 305/40 or 45 (don't remember:confused: )/18, which many people have run on the L, with much success.

Good luck! :)

What would you say is the best drag radial then? Would be interested to know! Thanks again for the replys and the help!

You could do the Mickey Thompson ET's, or something like that, but you're talking about picking up a 16" rims to mount them on.

To be honest with you I was wanting to get a drag radial that I can mount on the rims I already have. I just wanted like the same size tire as what I have now in the drag radial to pick up the extra traction. Is this possible?? If so, which kinds, and where can I find them, price ect.

You can find 305/45/18 Nitto 555Rs at victoria.com. The are listed as $225 apiece.

400 and 396 block names are sorta used interchangebly, theres also a 400 small block

I had trouble launching too, the last time I went out to the track, but I just put some Nitto 555r's on the rear, and it hooks VERY nicely on the street. With my mods, when I used to punch it at a 15 mph roll they would spin and the truck would go sideways a bit, now, with the Nitto's, no sideways motion, but they hop up and down a bit, which is much nicer. I like my Nitto's, have yet to track test them though.
