It's getting colder, Listen for pinging!!!!

Hey,

It's getting colder outside, time to listen for detonation of our trucks. Just a little reminder. A friend with an 01 L, just recently blew the tips off a few plugs(I think 3 and 4). He said he didn't hear anything, I don't think he really listened for it. The dealer just started tearing his engine down, He's lucky so far, I think all he needs is a new head and he didn't hurt the short block.

Watch those Hot summer chips in the cool air ...

Omg I LOVE THIS! South Florida is finally chilling out. It was 65 tonight so I decided to give it a WOT run. HOLY CHIT! It feels like I added about 50 HP! Its amazing! I love the cold weather. While I was doing this I had the radio off and was listening incase I heard any sign of detination, so I could kill it imediatly.

...and don't forget to put your snow cap on before going outside.

Just kidding DL :D,

Good info! Lots of people throw rods and eat plugs in the cold weather. If you want to run your hot summer chips, at least use some high octane gas and listen for pinging....straight C16 will do wonders!

Hey Eric,

NO snow down here, hardly ever...:D

Straight C16 does wonders.

Hey hey what about me. I just flat out blow the plugs out of the head dammit. On the coldest night of the year might I add. I was listening for pinging when I heard my coil pack hit my hood. It was pretty cool. ! Good ol JL got me right back on the road though.:D

AH, that clears it ALL up.....:p

C16 is 116 octane race gas. You can mix it 50/50 with 91-93 for a safe race mix. I try to run all C16 if I am running an aggesive chip. It's a little expensive, but much cheaper than replacing a head or whole motor.

You guys know that leaded race fuel kills your O2 sensors right?

Does anyone have experience with the VP csp and mixing Xyline to raise octane? Would like to run a high octane and not worry about the effects of leaded fuel.

Verry good advice

Even though my truck will barelly be run all winter

I will be getting a 2 # pulley instead of the 6# I run in the summer, and I will run a richer program with less timing.

I figure I won't be racing any ways so might as well be safe.
