Who's really responsible?

This is sort of similar to the person who dropped their truck off at the dealer and got a call about damage to it. I brought mine in to the dealer to have the rear bumper replaced, the front bumper and tailgate repainted. They had me sign a form specifically stating they are not responsible for lost or stolen stereo equipment; just stereo equipment. I signed it thinking they would still be responsible since it's in their possession. But, now since it's been three days since they've had it, i'm getting curious. Would they be responsible if my system was stolen?

To some extent...most limited liability forms are total BS in court.

Whoa...that one confused me. They are not responsible for lost or stolen stereo equipment, just stereo equipment? Are you referring to them being responsible if a DVD system gets jacked? Why did ya sign it?

I signed a form stating the dealer was not responsible for stolen radios and personal items while the truck was in their possesion. Well, I only left the truck there for the day and when I picked it up that afternoon the door had been broken and the stereo system was gone. I sued and won. The dealer threatened to appeal and I took their settlement which was $500 less than what I sued for. BTW, I didn't have a lawyer and they had two. :)

hurmm.. they say lost or stolen, but what if it was "borrowed" and not returned, then are they liable?  :D

I was trying to stress the form only addressed stereo equipment.
